Jacob gently turned around upon hearing Loraine’s voice, instructing him to turn around as he did so. His eyes met her gentle ones, a warm and kind smile plastered on her face, a few traces of blood droplets adorning her features, but that didn’t take away anything from the ethereal beauty and warm kindness she carried.
"Come with me," Loraine said, standing up to her feet as she reached out and grabbed Jacob’s hand, using [Magical Grasp] to move the sea of bodies out of the way as she began to lead him out of the dark, and utterly ruined alleyway.
"Keep your eyes on me, okay? Don’t look around you."
"M-miss...." Jacob said, his voice as light as a whisper as he closed his eyes, trying his best not to look despite already having seen the sight around him. "Are they dead?" He asked, the question making Loraine’s eyes widen in surprise.
’I wish, but even I wouldn’t go that far.’ Loraine thought to herself, a nervous smile playing out on her lips. ’Although I did leave them on severely low health.’ She gulped.
"Don’t worry Jacob, they’re not dead." She said to reassure him, though she knew with her [Eyes Of Appraisal] Skill that they wouldn’t be alive any longer.
"O-Okay..." Jacob said, feeling a bit relieved. Tonight was the most chaotic, and oddly happiest moment of his life, as he didn’t expect to meet a woman such as Loraine. He had heard fairy tales of heroes before, but he had yet to see one, until tonight that was.
They walked through the dangerous district, the place feeling a bit more safer now that Jack’s gang had been dealt with, but danger was still lurking in the shadows, offering sneaky glances as they would pass, but not daring to step up to Loraine’s dangerous, but protective energy.
’This place is far safer now, though that doesn’t stop all the illegal business going on here, I at least managed to make it safer for people to traverse this place.’ She thought, a smile tugging on her lips.
’That’s one gang less in this place, and while that may not be much, it’s enough for now.’
The sounds of the central district caught their ears, as after a while of walking had they finally arrived at their destination. Loraine walked Jacob to a secluded area, away from all the sounds of magic being performed and hundreds of people walking up and down.
"Alright Jacob, this is where we part ways." Loraine said, crouching down to meet his eyes. "Remember to stay good okay?" She said, gently patting the boy’s head as his eyes widened, a look of worry painting his features.
"Oh....okay." Jacob said, his voice carrying a hint of sadness. He felt sad that Loraine was already going to be abandoning him, already dreading the feeling of being alone once again. He took a deep breath, glancing up at Loraine as he put on his most serious expression, a burning determination burning in his chest as he wanted to be strong for her sake.
’I feel so bad right now...’ Loraine thought, her expression turning to that of pain as she didn’t want to abandon the boy so soon. But the looming threat of Margret and the importance of her task loomed heavily on her mind, a grim feeling washing over her.
’I just hope I’m not too late.’
"I’ll do my best, for your sake." He said, a warm smile forming on his lips as he let out a small laugh. Loraine’s face lit up at his words, the cute laugh of Jacob managing to ease her worries as she breathed a sigh of relief.
"But before you leave miss, can I please know your name?" He asked again, the question causing Loraine to blink in surprise as she had forgotten to give it to him earlier, too caught up in the chaos of the battle with the bandits.
A delighted chuckle left her lips, she hadn’t felt this entertained quite a while.
"Loraine," She said, the words leaving her lips in a fated whisper.
"My name’s Loraine. It’s a pleasure to have met you, Jacob." She flashed a grin, feigning a heroic appearance that made the stars in Jacob’s eyes shine brightly.
"Loraine...Loraine....Loriane..." Jacob muttered, repeating the name again and again as if trying to store it into memory, a delighted smile settling on his face.
’Okay slow down buddy....you don’t have to chant it.’ She thought, an awkward smile settling on her features.
"Loraine!" He laughed. "Alright, I got it. I won’t ever forget you, Loraine." Jacob said, radiating a glowing ray of happiness that melted Loraine’s heart at the sight.
"I won’t forget you either, Jacob." She replied, rising to her feet as she glanced around the area for a moment, her eyes landing on the building of goods and groceries that the adventurer lady had shown her earlier, turning her head back to Jacob she spoke.
"I’ll see you around," Loraine said, gently patting Jacob’s head for the last time as she began to leave the area.
’I probably won’t be outside for a while after that...’
The air that surrounded her as she walked was a mesmerizing sight, as even though her maid uniform wrapped around her body in tatters, it didn’t take away the feeling of pure adoration swelling inside Jacob’s chest as he watched her leave.
A happy giggle escaped his lips as Jacob clutched at the purses of coins in his hands, tucking them into his pockets as he turned around and began to walk away, a joyful grin on his face.
’Loraine huh....I wonder what family she caters to, they must be really lucky to have someone as strong as her serving them as a maid.’ Jacob thought, placing a finger on his temple as he contemplated.
’I suppose I’ll have to go and pay the orphanage a visit one last time before I plan my next move, I don’t have to worry about Jack anymore.’ Jacob thought, his heart clenching at the thought as he walked through the streets.
’I can finally see my friends again...’
Inside the grocery shop, the door slid open as a bell jingled, announcing the arrival of a brand new customer. The shop keeper who was wiping his desk, glanced up as he saw a woman with short white hair and demonic crimson eyes entering the shop, her maid uniform in tatters as a look of surprise adorned his face.
’What in the hell happened to you?’ He thought to himself, raising a suspicious eyebrow as she approached the counter.
"Welcome to the Moonlight-!"
Jingle!
The shop keeper was rudely interrupted by the sounds of a coin sack hitting his desk, followed by the desperate pleas of the woman as her expression turned to that of panic and worry.
"Please, there’s not much time! I need everything on this list as quick as possible!"
