“How many people would end up dead because of that?” Malia asked.

“A lot,” Alvera answered. “But it’s a better alternative than people living in fear of these gangs, who can do whatever they want by exploiting threats from higher-ups. Just look at you and your friends, you’re indistinguishable from the other gangs in the area because you act under their rules. You have to make these things clear and stop them at the source, unless you want to be suddenly forced to commit crimes.”

Alvera stood, detecting the incoming rush of goons led by the man she had headbutted.
