–Chapter 39–
Title>> The Dragon and the Fairy Chief
"Enough."
The single word cut cleanly through the arguments.
Only moments ago, the unfamiliar voices had been talking over one another, each trying to drown out the other like a wrestling match between kids
But now...all that was left was silence.
It settled over the little garden so completely that Xavier could hear the distant chirping of birds somewhere beyond the trees.
Xavier swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat. But in reality he had sneaked a healing pill into his mouth the moment he heard that voice.
His fingers twitched once against the soft grass before becoming still again.
Whoever had spoken a moment earlier was definitely in charge of the others.
He remained still, not because he was afraid but because moving served no purpose.
His body was still recovering. His surroundings were completely unfamiliar, and every voice he’d heard so far belonged to someone whose intentions he couldn’t yet determine.
Hunter X had survived Arillion by learning before acting.
That habit had kept him alive through hidden quests, impossible raids and more ambushes than he cared to remember.
He wasn’t about to abandon it now. Instead, Xavier quietly opened his eyes a little wider.
The first thing he noticed was that the voices belonged to far more people than he’d initially assumed.
They stood scattered around the garden in a loose circle, weapons still raised toward him.
Each wielding a different type of weapon, some held short bows, others carried curved blades. But the majority pointed wooden spears tipped with sharpened stones.
They were all practical weapons, nothing top tier but threatening enough if he didn’t have Dragon Hide.
Only then did Xavier finally look at the people holding them.
His brows lifted slightly. "...Fairies?"
Not the tiny creatures from children’s story books.
Most barely reached his shoulders, their lean frames built for speed rather than strength.
The women possessed translucent wings folded neatly behind their backs, shimmering softly whenever they caught the sunlight filtering through the leaves overhead.
The men on the other hand, had none. It was an interesting design no matter how many times he looked at them.
For a brief moment, memories surfaced from old playthroughs. Hidden fairy settlements he had besieged.
One thing was certain about fairies. They were territorial by nature. Incredibly suspicious of outsiders and slow to trust.
They were also surprisingly fair once a debt had been acknowledged.
Unfortunately...
If they decided someone was an enemy first...changing their minds bordered on impossible.
This right not wasn’t simply first contact. It was negotiation in the making.

Even after a few seconds , the fairies remained where they stood.
No one lowered a weapon but no one stepped either.
Yet, without anyone saying another word, the circle slowly parted. A narrow path opened between them.
Soft footsteps brushed against the grass as Xavier’s gaze followed them.
The woman who emerged was unlike the others.
She stood only a little shorter than Xavier himself, making her seem almost out of place among the rest of her kin.
She had black hair, braided loosely behind her back, which rested over fitted leather armour that had clearly seen better days.
Parts of the armor had been repaired more than once, while other sections still carried fresh tears.
A longsword rested quietly at her waist. Just like the other weapons he saw.
There was nothing ornate about the weapon. Its edges looked chipped and used.
But the moment she appeared, Xavier understood something.
She hadn’t ordered the others to obey. They simply did without questions.
That was true leadership. One that wasn’t birth from titles but earned through actual respect.
’Interesting...’
His eyes lingered only for a moment before his annoying habit took over.
He noticed her posture was almost perfect.
Almost.
Every few breaths, her weight shifted ever so slightly onto her right leg before returning to the centre.
It was small and controlled, something that was easy to miss. But Xavier noticed it.
He noticed the faint stains around the edge of her armour where someone had wiped away blood without cleaning it completely.
And despite how calm she looked, her breathing was just a fraction deeper than it should have been.
She was injured but she was hiding it. And not particularly well either.
Xavier frowned almost imperceptibly.
If she was still leading while injured...then it was either no one else here could replace her or she refused to let them.
Neither answer made her any less troublesome.
She stopped a few paces away from him.
And for the first time since waking, Xavier locked eyes with the person who commanded the village of fairies.
Her emerald green eyes remained steady. it was neither hostile nor was it welcoming.
They simply watching him. Just as carefully as he had been watching her.
The silence stretched between them and unseen tension building up at an astonishing pace.
Neither seemed interested in being the first to waste a word.
***
To everyone else gathered in the garden...it was a wounded human that had somehow fallen into their hidden village.
But Fiona knew better.
Something about him disturbed her instincts. His scent was off and faint.
Far too faint and yet impossible to ignore or mistake.
Dragon.
Her eyes narrowed almost into tiny slits.
His bloodline wasn’t complete neither was it pure. Actually it was... fractured.
As though two truths existed at once and neither wished to give way to the other.
’He is confusing,’ she thought. ’Very confusing.’
She knew from stories that dragons did not simply appear inside fairy territory.
Yet here was one. Bleeding on her grass with more injuries than scales.
Nothing about the picture before her matched the stories she had grown up hearing.
She buried every one of those thoughts before they reached her face.
Confusion was a luxury. A leader couldn’t afford to wear.
When she finally spoke, her voice was calm.
Neither warm nor cold but simply accustomed to being answered.
"Who are you?" She asked.

Almost immediately, a familiar interface unfolded before Xavier.
[Interactive Dialogue has been initiated]
[How will you respond?]
[Option A - Explain honestly.]
[Option B - Refuse and stay quiet]
[Option C- Other.]
Xavier’s eyes rested on the options for barely a heartbeat. Something else had already caught his attention.
The world hadn’t stopped when the dialogue interface appeared.
On the contrary , the fairies continued shifting their footing.
Someone behind him whispered something too quietly to make out. Another adjusted the grip on a spear.
’Interesting.’
Without another thought, Xavier selected the third option.
He clicked.
[Option C- Other]
