The office fell silent in an instant. Everyone froze, the smiles still lingering on their faces, but their eyes were now wide with shock.

At that moment, Susan Miller was spewing spittle as she pointed at the young receptionist who was trying to stop her, cursing, "Who the hell do you think you are? You dare to stop me? My daughter owns this company! I’m her mother! This whole floor is mine to roam as I please!"

She had already drawn blood scratching the security guard who tried to restrain her. Susan Miller’s eyes were bloodshot and her hair was a mess as she charged straight for the office area, with Felix Rhodes following close behind.

Meanwhile, Hugo Rhodes had already swaggered into the open-plan office. He browsed the area as if it were a street market, casually picking up and fiddling with figurines on desks, then commenting on the computer screens. "Whoa, this computer’s pretty fast. Seeing her, Susan Miller rushed forward. "You ungrateful beast! Think your wings have grown, huh? How dare you have security block your own mother?! What part of you didn’t I give you?! Your life belongs to me!"

Susan Miller nearly spat on Maxine Rhodes’s feet, her voice loud enough for the entire building to hear. "What’s so great about this shitty company of yours?! Isn’t it just dirty money you got from spreading your legs and sleeping with old men?! Huh?!

"They say I made you lose that investment last time, right? Good! Let it be ruined! What’s so important about a stupid company?! Is it more important than your parents’ lives? Is it more important than your brother’s future?!"

With every roar, she took another step forward, her spittle nearly spraying Maxine Rhodes’s face.

If he takes a liking to one of your employees, it’s her good fortune! Who are you making that bitchy face for?! Do you still have any respect for me, your mother, or for your brother?!"

Maxine Rhodes stood there, her fists clenched, staring at the three familiar yet alien faces before her.

Every word was like a poison-tipped needle, jabbing at her relentlessly, but strangely, she felt no pain. Perhaps she had just gone numb.

She could feel the gazes of her team behind her—angry, worried. Coco was trembling slightly behind her, not from fear, but from sheer rage.

She wanted to speak.

She wanted to rebuke them sharply, to fight back with the coldest words, to make them get out immediately.

But her throat felt as if it were being squeezed shut by an invisible hand, and she couldn’t make a sound.
