Isn't It Love?

"Want salad or extra potatoes?"

Reva asked Chloe, who was thinking about what else she should add to her tray.

"Hey... you’re being called." Kai said, raising one hand and making a chopping motion over Chloe’s head. "Hurry up... the line’s getting longer."

"Can’t you please be patient."

Chloe, with a serious face but mysterious thoughts, went back to thinking, weighing her options as if all of life’s matters depended on her lunch.

"Haa... just give her potatoes, someone like her doesn’t like eating green vegetables." Kai said to Reva.

"Okay~"

Taking a few scoops of potatoes onto Chloe’s tray, Reva handed the tray to Chloe. Before Chloe could protest, Kai told her to find an empty seat. Yeah, Chloe left Kai with a huff.

"Hahaha~ she’s funny." Reva said as she took Kai’s tray.

"You tell me."

"Someone’s getting popular lately~ not to mention a few days ago, hanging out with four different girls, phew... you’re really a ’lady-killer’ hahaha~"

Hearing the teasing words from Reva’s mouth, Kai just sighed, because everything Reva said wasn’t wrong. Maybe only two words were a bit off from what Reva said.

Lady-Killer?

For God’s sake, all the girls Kai accompanied, like he was collecting Pokémon, weren’t ’ladies’, they were just ’girls’ still wet behind the ears. If we’re talking about the only ’lady’ Kai had ever met, maybe it was only Reva, and that’s because she’s older than him.

"Yeah... yeah, speaking of which Reva-"

"Big Sister Reva." Reva interrupted Kai’s words, that sweet smile still on her face. "You really never call me ’big sister’ anymore."

Kai furrowed his brow, come to think of it, he really had almost never called Reva ’big sister’ again.

"Hmm... if you give me an extra carton of milk, I’ll call you ’big sister’ again for one week."

"Deal~" Reva giggled before her eyes widened as if remembering something. "Eh... wait, you’ll call me ’big sister’ for the next week but, school will be on break in two days." Clicking her tongue, Reva still grabbed two cartons of milk and put them on Kai’s tray. "Gosh, you’re really clever, huh, trying to trick your pretty big sister here~"

"Thank you."

Kai, who was about to turn and head to the table, stopped. He looked at Reva’s face which was still smiling and even gave him a flying kiss gesture.

"Do you need something, dear~"

"Hmm... there’s something I want to ask. When Lily was with you the other day. When I was hanging out with my friends, why was Lily with you?"

Reva’s innocent smile then turned more mischievous. But her gaze sharpened. Kai shivered a little looking at Reva’s face. She really wasn’t like the ’cafeteria lady’ he had just been talking to. Like someone else.

"Curious?" asked Reva as she propped herself on her palm, tilting her head, she really seemed to be putting pressure like ’are you sure you want to know,’ still looking at the boy in front of her, Reva opened her mouth to continue, "Should I tell you?"

Kai swallowed, his heart beating pretty fast, telling him to just forget his curiosity. The less someone knows, the better, that’s what people say. However, for Kai, that curiosity really had to be dealt with immediately.

"Yeah. I think... I want to know why you were in Midtown and about the brooch you gave to Lily. I want to know the reason."

Reva laughed, covering her mouth with her hand to hide her snickering expression. That hand then reached for Kai’s face, her finger pressing against his right cheek.

"I was just doing my monthly shopping ’cause I just got paid." That finger traced down moving to Kai’s chin before Reva let go. "It was all just coincidence~"

"A coincidence that happens pretty often..." Kai said with a suspicious tone.

"Coincidence... ’randomness’ isn’t that normal?"

"But if a coincidence forms a pattern, that’s not random anymore..."

These two stared at each other, the position was a stalemate, neither advancing nor retreating. Kai felt that if he backed off, and tried asking another day, that chance would disappear considering that during school break he’d likely rarely see Reva.

"You don’t need to be afraid, you know. I’m always here~"

Ehh...

Kai’s eyes widened, he couldn’t speak when he heard Reva say those words. Reading his mind? Or was it just a lucky guess. But before he could ask something, someone behind him complained because he was spending too much time talking and not leaving.

"Hey, dude! If you wanna talk to this pretty cafeteria lady, please do it later, everyone’s hungry and wants to grab food."

Kai smiled awkwardly and nodded, apologizing for taking too long. Seeing that, Reva reached into her pocket and gave a small piece of paper to Kai.

"If you wanna talk a lot, just contact me, who knows we could go on a date~" Reva said with her vibe back to ’the friendly, polite cafeteria lady’.

"Okay..." Kai put the paper in his pocket, "I’ll contact you..."

Kai then left with his tray and two cartons of milk. The cafeteria wasn’t too crowded because many students chose not to come, so he could easily find Chloe.

"Kai! You took too long!"

Chloe saw Kai walk over and sit next to her, and she noticed that Kai got two cartons of milk. "Hey, how’d you get two milks?"

"Hmm?" Kai opened the milk and drank it, he took the other carton for Chloe. "Yeah, ’cause I’m handsome so the cafeteria lady gave me an extra one."

"Uwaa... you’ve become narcissistic now."

"Just kidding, dummy."

In the end, Kai ate together and of course Chloe often took Kai’s potatoes. Eating in the school cafeteria, a bit empty of the sea of people, was pretty nice.

He got Reva’s number. In his mind, Kai thought maybe he could meet Reva later during summer break. For some reason, Kai was really curious about who this ’Reva’ really was.

"Kai~ what are you thinking about?" Chloe said with her mouth full, chewing food.

"Nothing... just thinking about the part-time job later."

"Ahh~ you’re still thinking about which mascot costume to wear! Don’t worry I’ll pick it for you!"

Kai sighed, he hoped something would happen at his workplace later. At least if he was with Chloe, he wouldn’t be bored.
