She was asleep by the time we reached the door.

She was curled up on her bed, limbs tangled in a defensive sprawl, hugging a pillow like it owed her money. The moonlight from the window made her silver hair glow faintly. Her brow twitched like she was dreaming something too intense for such a small body.

I stepped inside, hesitant.

"Hey," I whispered. "You didn't... do anything to the contract, did you?"

No answer.

I sighed and turned to leave—

Then she spoke.

"...You're mine now."

My heart stuttered.

It exploded.

The kitchen smelled like failure and paprika for the rest of the day.

Back in the present, I remained kneeling beside her bed, unsure of what to do.

That stopped me cold.

Her voice was barely a whisper. A choked murmur from some deep corner of her dreams.

"...You saved me," she said.

I didn't answer.

"I'll save you too," she promised.

Somewhere between those words, something in my chest tugged.

This girl—this tiny, terrifying, emotionally unstable ex-Demon Queen in a child's body—had bonded to me.

At some point, I drifted off beside her bed.

When I woke, it was morning.

She was curled half on top of her blanket, one foot dangling off the mattress, snoring like a chainsaw in a tin can.

I flexed my fingers.

The bracelet dimmed.

Rhea stirred, blinked once, and looked at me.

Then her eyes flicked to my wrist.

Her expression went wide-eyed.

Then smug.

Then suspicious.

"...Did you touch something you weren't supposed to?"

"You did this."

"I definitely didn't."

"You muttered 'You're mine now' in your sleep."

She turned red.

"I was obviously quoting a fairy tale."

"And threatening to burn me."

"...Romantic fairy tale."

"That bracelet says otherwise."

She folded her arms. "Fine. You're slightly mine."

"Just slightly?"

"Well, emotionally. Also magically. And contractually. And probably spiritually. But only slightly."

She climbed down from the bed and poked the bracelet.

"It's warm," she said softly.

"So are you."

She paused.

"...You're not mad?"

"No."

She smiled. It wasn't her usual wicked smirk. Just something small. Honest.

"I didn't want you to vanish. Like before."

"Before?"

She looked away. "When I died last time."

I inhaled slowly. "You remember that?"

"Not all of it. Just... flashes."

I nodded. "You won't vanish either. Not if I can help it."

She looked back. Eyes shining.

"Promise?"

"Promise."

We stood there for a long second.

Then she kicked me in the shin.

"For being sappy," she said.

I sighed. "You're welcome."
