Doomsday Pillars

Rob was initially elated whem he saw all of the hellhound chasers blasted to pieces by the war machines, but now replacing those hellhound chasers was the most terrifying menace humanity had ever faced, the chimera had suddenly arrived.

The huge multiple-headed abomination very briefly scanned its surroundings before it headed toward the flying hovercraft at breakneck speed. Rob’s eyes could barely follow the chimera, but there was nothing he could do to stop it.

He could only hope that the reinforcement would survive.

Dum dum dum dum!

Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom!

Fortunately, the hovercraft successfully shot the rapid cannon that was attached on top of it and managed to hit the creature directly, causing it to fall to the Nevada desert and creating a huge sand cloud into the sky.

Witnessing such a monster successfully defeated, Rob, Glen, and the rest of the soldiers loudly cheered in excitement. The proud American weapon did its job well, bringing them confidence and motivation.

However, as the hovercraft continued to race toward the two vehicles, it continued to fire its missiles and cannon toward the cloud of dust.

Dum dum dum dum!

Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom!

Upon seeing this, Rob immediately understood.

The creature was still alive, and the people on the hovercraft knew that!

As soon as he realized what had happened, he quickly jumped down from the vehicles and toward his brother, Glen.

"Bring the VIP to the hovercraft!!" he hurriedly commanded.

"What about our brothers?"

"Listen to my command, the mission comes first! Take them, I will get our brothers!"

Even though Glen felt reluctant, he immediately told the armored vehicles to keep going forward in their pursuit of the hovercraft in the direction they came.

In the meantime, Rob took two soldiers and rushed toward the cloud of dust on the back. His target was none other than the second vehicle, which was where his brother and the rest of the survivors were.

The three ran into the cloud of dust as the first vehicles continued heading toward the hovercraft.

"Chris!! Dan!! Gordie!!" he shouted their names as he quickly rushed deep into the dust cloud.

However, what responded to his calls was instead the howls of hellhounds, which was a completely different sound than what he expected.

Beginning to feel a little uneasy, Rob increased his pace as he began to hear gunshots in the distance.

A few seconds after, the curtain of dust was slowly lifted, allowing him to spot the vehicles that had already turned over. Not only that, but it seemed that another wave of attacks was about to come at it as he could see hundreds of hellhounds racing from a distance.

Tratatatat tratatatata—

"Dan! Chris!! Gordie!!"

At long last, Rob saw them bracing themselves against the armored vehicles, and as the large number of hellhounds charged toward them, they started to fire at them as well.

"Rob, you are here! Get the survivors to safety now!!!" Gordie shouted when he saw Rob coming toward them.

The armored vehicles had been severely damaged, and with a brief look, Rob could tell that 6 to 7 civilians survived. Nevertheless, those who had survived the attack were not able to even stand properly, much less aid in battle.

He urgently screamed and pointed towards the direction they had to go to escape in order to save their lives.

There were also two more soldiers who were still alive aside from his three brothers, but unfortunately, their conditions could not be said to be good. As for the other soldiers, they had either died or been incapacitated.

Rob ordered the two men who had accompanied him to help the helpless civilians and retreat as soon as they arrived while he joined the battle and started shooting.

"Brother! We must retreat! The reinforcements are here!!"

"Yes! Take all the civilians, we will cover your back!"

"No! You all go first! I will guard the rear!"

At this moment, however, he noticed that something strange was going on between the three of them. Upon hearing his words, they all looked at each other for a second before dryly laughing.

Rob previously did not notice as his attention was divided left and right, but now that he took a closer look at them, he realized that both Chris and Dan had suffered serious injuries as a result of the intense battle. There was a large wound on Dan’s stomach, while Chris had even lost one of his feet already.

Immediately, he called on the men to come to their aid, but Gordie, the oldest, shoved him aside. Unlike Rob, Gordie thought that he should just go to save the others.

At least, that was more important on his behalf.

Rob could not help but grit his teeth.

"Just get out of here!!"

Rob refused to comply with his brother’s order and remained on the premises. There was absolutely no way he was going to just abandon his brothers in this kind of situation. Moreover, their condition seemed to be bad, and it was obvious that they needed help.

"No fucking way I am gonna let you! You three guard the rear! I am in command!" he continued.

When Dan, Chris, and Goldie realized what they just heard, the three of them burst out laughing at the same time.

"Hahahah! Rob, you may outrank us in the army, but we are still your older brothers! And family always comes first before anything!" Gordie said after calming himself a little.

The news was too much for Rob to take in, but he still forced himself to pick up Chris, who was unable to move anymore.

But to his surprise, Chris pushed him away. Seeing Rob’s questioning look, he smiled and showed him the pack of C4 he had already prepared on his arm. With just the press of a button, he would be able to activate it whenever he wanted to.

"Don’t!!" Rob reflexively shouted while holding Chris’ arm.

Dan, who was normally quiet and was preoccupied with shooting at the incoming hellhound, merely turned for a split second and said one sentence.

"Take care of our little brother and pops, all right!"

However, knowing that he would not be able to convince the other two, Rob quickly turned to face Gordie, his eldest brother, in an attempt to persuade him to change his mind.

"No, brother, I can’t do this... let me help you..." he said in an almost begging tone, his expression pallid.

Tears fell to his cheeks at the thought of his brothers’ end. Seeing this, Gordie put both of his palms on his head.

"You are a Grom!! Yes, you can! Now go!!"

"Arrrghhhhhh!!" Rob screamed in pain.

He turned around to pick one of the survivors and the rest of the soldiers followed, each of them carrying a civilian in their backs. All of them were now on their way to escape from the armored vehicles that had been turned down.

Although his eyes were glued forward, his ears were filled with the sound of guns echoing at the back of his head. He kept running and running, not daring to look back.

Kaboooommmm!!!

The sound of the explosion pierced both his ears and his heart.

It was the end of the three Grom brothers.
