Defeating the World with the Power of One Dragon!

"Garoth, how did you manage that breath attack just now?" The brass-silver dragon couldn't help but ask. "And after using such a powerful breath, why don't you seem weakened at all?"

Opposite her, the red iron dragon still exuded overwhelming majesty, his aura vigorous, showing no signs of fatigue after unleashing such an overwhelming attack. Garoth shook his head slightly, offering no reply.

He pondered internally: "The essence of that breath was the sum total of all energy absorbed from the brass-silver dragon's attacks and environmental heat."

Now carefully recalling all the sensations and changes, Garoth gained some understanding of his new scales' effects. They had evolved in the direction he desired, yet with some differences. As he had hoped, they wouldn't overheat and explode anymore, but still retained their ability to absorb kinetic energy and weaken attacks.

Moreover, they possessed additional new effects - like releasing cold air. Or more accurately, absorbing heat. His scales could rapidly absorb heat to create chilling effects. When enduring physical attacks, some of the absorbed kinetic energy would convert to heat while simultaneously drawing thermal energy from the surroundings. Yet this heat wouldn't dissipate through explosions.

This scale evolution also involved changes to his internal organs. All absorbed and converted thermal energy would accumulate until his scales completely shattered, reaching peak capacity for a single devastating breath attack release - its power surprising even Garoth himself.

Though somewhat different from his initial vision, this still resembled his original idea of energy accumulation for self-enhancement, compensating for his ranged attack deficiencies. Enemies hit by this breath wouldn't even require his Frenzied State - they'd be instantly obliterated, ending the battle.

The only drawback was that when heat accumulation reached maximum, his body's reaction became too conspicuous - glowing red with rolling heat waves, clearly signaling an impending ultimate move that gave enemies time to react.

Putting himself in their place, Garoth knew he'd pause attacks and focus on defense if an enemy displayed such obvious tells. But regardless of shortcomings, he'd gained a formidable new ability.

Under moonlight, Garoth's black-red scales gleamed metallically. Picking up a shard of explosive scale, he thought: "Absorbing heat to release cold, while still capable of ultimate outbursts... Since it's evolved again, it deserves a new name - Frostburst Scales."

The Frostburst Scales satisfied him greatly. They granted Garoth a new ice attribute, not only eliminating that weakness but even giving him advantage against creatures formerly of his own destruction type. Their appearance also surpassed the previous explosive scales by far.

As Garoth had initially hoped when first developing explosive scales, perhaps someday he'd evolve truly magnificent dragon scales. While not excessively ornate, the Frostburst Scales were quite handsome. Of course, practicality mattered most - appearance was secondary.

"Pity they only fully turn cold silver when absorbing attacks," Garoth mused cheerfully. "Otherwise I could pretend to be a silver dragon against unfamiliar creatures."

"More research is needed - like maximum heat endurance duration, whether it dissipates or persists, and whether partial releases are possible before reaching limit..."

Though Frostburst Scales regenerated quickly, they couldn't match the hyper-regeneration of his spikes. Now completely shattered, they'd require two to three days to regrow. Garoth noted several research directions for when they returned.

The brass-silver dragon gradually calmed her astonishment, approaching Garoth with elegant steps while eyeing him uncertainly.

Garoth: "Do I look strange?"

Brass-silver dragon: "In too many ways to count." She examined him closely, muttering: "Special mutation from hybrid blood? I'm hybrid too, but never felt anything like this."

"Perhaps red and iron dragon bloodlines are more compatible," Garoth said offhandedly.

Suddenly curious, the brass-silver dragon asked: "Garoth, if two hybrid dragons bred, could their offspring activate more than two hybrid types?"

Garoth considered seriously before shaking his head. "Uncertain, but chances are microscopic. Two-type hybrids are rare enough, let alone three or four."

As he spoke, Garoth found himself studying the brass-silver dragon. Her scales seemed breathtakingly beautiful in moonlight, her neck curve exceptionally elegant, stirring uncontrollable heat within him.

The red iron dragon's gaze grew increasingly predatory. Changing tack, he told her: "There's a saying - practice reveals truth. No hypothesis matches firsthand experimentation."

He stepped closer, inhaling the frosty scent from her neck as he murmured: "Deborah, would you like to try? I'd be delighted to cooperate. Several generations of offspring might clarify hybrid mysteries."

Driven by his bloodline, the red iron dragon made his bold proposition without reservation. Yet immediately after speaking, Garoth realized his mistake.

Post-hibernation awakenings always intensified his evil dragon urges. Unchecked, they'd briefly overridden his judgment. With another evil dragon, such directness wouldn't be problematic - given mutual interest, his appearance, potential and strength made acceptance likely. But with metallic dragons... circumstances differed.

The brass-silver dragon first froze, staring at Garoth in confusion as if mishearing. Several seconds later, comprehension dawned. She suddenly retreated several steps, her scales heating until nearly igniting.

"Pre-presumptuous red-iron evil dragon!" Deborah stammered between embarrassment and fury. "What nonsense are you spouting?"

Before Garoth could explain, she averted her eyes, suddenly taking flight in near panic. In her haste, she crashed into a valley cliff before righting herself and disappearing awkwardly into the night.

The red iron dragon scratched his head, watching her departure with concern: "She wouldn't actually leave for good... or worse, complain to her parents?"

The latter would prove troublesome - his post-hibernation power growth still couldn't match a mature silver dragon's strength. But knowing Deborah, she'd likely just need time to compose herself before returning, probably without "tattling." "Garoth, remember - reason must govern desire," the red iron dragon chided himself. "This is the consequence of surrender."

He'd intended to ask about Dragon Valley's past decade - developments, dangers, incidents - but his uncontrolled post-hibernation urges had scared her off instead.

"What are you peeking at? Come out." Garoth suddenly swept his right wing, gale-force winds extracting the faerie dragon from hiding.

"Ah! Vira was just napping here! Saw nothing!" she swore, crossing her heart while silently praying the rejected red iron dragon wouldn't vent his embarrassment-fueled rage on her.

"Why retreating? Come here." Garoth addressed the instinctively backing-away faerie dragon, guessing her thoughts with some exasperation. Why did she always witness his embarrassing moments?

This made letting her leave even less advisable. When he eventually became a legendary figure, he couldn't have her leaking his unsavory history.
