Celeste’s POV

My head felt like it was going to fucking explode then piece itself back together.

I couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t get my mind off everything that happened tonight. Heck, everything that’s been happening since last night and two weeks ago.

It was as if the gods, the universe, or whatever forces were in charge of my life’s story were playing chess and didn’t know where to move the pawns.

Squinting, I turned on my bed, facing the digital alarm clock. My eyes were still hazy, so I rubbed them, blinking for better clarity.

Instead, my gaze ended up wandering to Willow’s bed at the other side of the room.

Empty.

Shock pulsed through me as I sat up. Stretching my neck, I was able to confirm she wasn’t anywhere in the room, or the suite as a whole.

"What the heck?" Glancing at the clock again, I confirmed the time.

Three am on the dot.

Where was that girl at this time? Especially after the attack at the memorial!

Panic surged through me, my mind already pondering the worst. I still remember how those beasts hunted me specifically during the attack.

What if more came in here and grabbed Willow?

"That... That doesn’t even make any sense." I shook my head, flinging aside the bed sheets. Placing my feet on the cold marble floor, I was about to get up when a click snapped from the other end of the door.

My heart dropped.

Clenching my fists, I slowly turned my head to the door. The knob jiggled, moving around a bit. The movement soon increased pace, the person or thing at the other end clearly struggling to break in.

Oh, fuck no.

Turning my gaze to the cabinet beside my bed, I scanned around for my phone.

"Where the heck is that thing?" Each jiggle of the doorknob made my heart hammer heavier against my chest.

Luckily, I found it underneath my pillow and pulled it out immediately.

Only to be hit with the worst ball fate could ever throw at me right now.

It’s dead!

Adrenaline pushed me to search for a weapon when the lock jiggling didn’t cease. As if whoever was behind that door wanted me to piss my pants.

Well, they’re getting pretty close.

Grabbing a hair brush on the cabinet, I hopped out of bed. The thing shook between my hands but I didn’t give a damn, taking slow steps toward the door.

Silence.

Like spell work, the doorknob jiggling stopped completely. A shadow loomed at the other end of the door, tall and menacing, visible through the opening underneath.

It didn’t move. Didn’t knock.

Then—

The hallway lights outside switched off. And the shadow disappeared.

Terrified beyond my wits, I yelped. Pivoting, I made my way towards the balcony door, hoping to lock myself outside for the night.

"Ah!" I screamed when I bumped into a hard surface. But before I could stumble backwards, a strong hand grabbed my waist, fingers gripping tightly into my curves.

I gasped, raising my head when my nostrils got hit with a familiar scent. Cinnamon and whiskey.

Those hazel eyes staring into mine sealed the deal.

"S–Silas?" My tone was laced with confusion, brain working overtime on too many emotions and thoughts.

Why was he here? At this time? Right when someone’s haunting my life?

Swallowing, I placed my hands on his chest—realising too late that he was shirtless. Heat pooled in my cheeks, the previous fear evaporating into something you couldn’t pay me to name.

That tattoo was still on the left side of his chest. Still rising slowly with each breath he took.

"I’m... I’m sorry I left so abruptly when Luther came in," I felt obliged to speak when he didn’t, trying to stay focused on his eyes. "How’s your wound? Is it..."

Words died when my gaze fell on his stomach. I expected to see a bandaged wound, still healing. What I saw instead was nothing.

No bandages. No signs that he had as much as a scratch there. Just his abs glistening with sweat under the dim lighting of the room.

"H–How...?" Raising my head, I was ready to question him. But I couldn’t. Not with him still staring at me like he wanted to peer into the deepest part of my psyche.

His grip on my waist became firmer. Claiming. Possessive.

A pull thrummed between us, so electric it made my mouth water.

Eyes... Eyes... Focus on his eyes, Celeste.

With trembling lips, I barely managed a whisper. "You shouldn’t be here. It’s... It’s still dangerous out there, and I don’t know where Willow went. Or if she’ll be back—"

He didn’t let me finish.

When his lips crashed onto mine, my eyes widened. Not because I was stunned he did that. But because I couldn’t believe how much I craved this right now.

Craved him.

No questions or comments were necessary. My body responded before thoughts could catch up. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I moaned softly into the kiss.

His other hand grabbed my waist as well, pulling me close until our bodies collided.

Something was calming and igniting about his proximity. Something that made me want to let loose without restraint.

Things got heated quickly. He broke the kiss, yanking me off the ground. I wrapped my legs around his body, barely able to see him through my hair blocking my vision.

"Mine," his voice was low, lips curving into a faint smirk. "He doesn’t deserve this. Deserve you."

I knew instantly that he was referring to Luther. And for some reason, that only pushed my desire to go through with this.

Maybe my life needed a little spontaneity to keep me grounded in the chaos.

"Then..." I grabbed his cheeks, lowering my head until our lips were inches away. "Show me what I deserve. What he’s missing out on."

This time, I broke the distance first. His lips tasted like whiskey and something warm. Dangerous.

He grunted, fingers moving from my waist to my ass. When he grabbed me there, I couldn’t help myself from moaning. He moved, lowering me onto my bed with deliberate care.

I shook with anticipation, gasping when he placed himself between my legs. His right hand tugged at the strap of my pyjama pants, taking them off with ease.

His left parted my legs. The rush of cool air on my panties made me squirm. I bit my bottom lip, eyes locked on him as he lowered his head.

What I saw almost made me scream.

Silas’s head was still lowered on my entrance, except now, instead of his short light brown hair, he had shoulder-length black hair cascading over his face as silky waterfalls.

"S–Silas?" I grabbed the back of his head, making him look at my face.

When he did, I jolted.

Because it wasn’t Silas’ hazel orbs staring back at me. It was the fiery coal-like eyes of a man who made me feel like I was staring at all my sins combined.

Azrael!

"How... What the fuck is happening right now?" All the horniness sizzled out of me, replaced by confusion and dread.

I rolled off the bed, grunting in pain when my elbow hit the ground. But I didn’t let myself stay down, glancing back at the bed. Azrael’s glossy white skin, as inviting as it was, didn’t help take away the haunting realisation.

Either I’m losing my fucking mind or this was a horrible nightmare!

"What’s wrong, little miss?" Azrael murmured, a smirk shaping his features. "Afraid of what you see when you look into the dark?" His voice changed again at the word ’look’.

Then, in a blink, his face and body changed into someone else.

Dark, lustrous skin and lean muscles. And then those sharp golden eyes.

Atlas.

"P–Please," I shook my head, stumbling back on my feet. "What is this? What’s... what’s happening—"

"The dark isn’t your enemy, Celeste." He rose until he was standing on the bed, hovering over me like a god. "Search deeper. Closer. And you may..."

All it took was a blink for the freak before me to change again. This time to a face I never wanted to see again.

Yep. Luther.

"... Uncover things you once thought were hidden." Luther’s arrogant smirk made my jaw tighten.

I couldn’t stand the mental torture anymore.

"Get... Get away from me!" Placing my hands on my eyes, I screamed. "Leave me alone!"

"Cel?!" A tap on my shoulder made me gasp for breath.

Reality shifted, bringing me back to my bed. Except the lights were on now and instead of my mates, Willow was the one sitting beside me.

Worry furrowed her brows, eyes twinkling under the lights.

Still shaken, I scanned my eyes around the room.

It was all a dream...

Gods, of course it was.

"I’m... I’m fine, Willow." I forced a smile. "It was just a nightmare."

She didn’t look convinced, adjusting her sitting position. "It was clearly a terrible one if it had you screaming in the dead of midnight. And gods, you’re sweating bullets." Laying her hand gently on my forehead, she squinted. "Should I go get you water or something?"

All I managed was a nod.

However, the second she left, heading to the kitchen, I parted my bed sheets aside. My fingers touched my underwear, feeling the warm wetness between my thighs.

That dream wasn’t real... But the feelings? The angst? They were all as real as they get.

And somewhere in the night, I picked up the scents of four men. Four men who seemed like they were going to be my ruin with each passing minute.
