ASOIAF : As Homelander in Game of Thrones

Chapter 33 : The Dragon

Roman Empire 299 AC :

Daenerys Targaryen had not known much about the situation of Essos, Viserys would tell her a thing or two from time to time. He did not deem her, a woman, to be useful in the matters.

He was useless too, he had only the courage to yell at Illyrios poor slaves and nothing else. He had not once questioned the merchants intention. That did not bother him at all.

They were on the streets before he took them, no one else would have two poor children being chased by a tyrant.

Daenerys never dare trust Illyrio, he was a shrewd man but there was little to be done in that regard. They were at his mercy.

But even he seemed dull, different. Viserys had proved him for answers but Illyrio had just shrugged him off, that was the first time he had done so.

He was always eager to suck up to Viserys but these days he had ignored him.

She had believed that he too would kick them out soon enough. That whatever use he had thought they would be was no longer viable.

But the reason had been far to different.

Helios. She knew not much about the person wearing that name but she had heard of his great many deeds these past years.

Illyrio had told them, that there was an emperor in Essos. Viserys was quick to call him a pretender but when Illyrio spoke of the things he had achieved Viserys had become quite.

Daenerys knew that look, he looked like that when he had been outshined. He always like being the center of the attention.

This new emperor was a threat to Illyrio and to all the cities that were built on slavery.

He had conquered the entirety is Slaver’s bay and subjugated it within a year, even the land of new Ghis had been annexed.

He had renamed each of the city, given them a new name. He had even built his own faith, one where he called himself God.

Viserys had laughed openly and she had been taken aback by the sheer arrogance but only Illyrio had been stern faced.

He had heard rumours, all of them outlandish. Some said he could fly and some said he could shoot fire out of his eyes but most said he could do more.

No-one had taken it seriously but when Illyrio with his other buisness partners had bribed Khal Drogo, the greatest horse Lord in the Dothraki sea to destroy the city of Yunkai now called Sparta.

All of the Dothraki had perished. All of them.

Within a month, the entire Dothraki sea had been cleared of the Dothraki. That was impossible.

There were numerous tribes spread across the vast plain, no army could do something like this, not even dragons could do something like this.

Worse still was that there was no news of any battle fought, any blood spilled. For all they knew this war was over leaving not blood but ash.

The free cities had ceased all attempt to antagonize Emperor Helios. Many sellsword companies had left the free cities to become a part of the Roman Empire.

His empire spread from the east of Pentos to the bone Mountains. A single empire that large had not existed.

There were usually lords and kings but no Emperor who was absolute.

But she had been fascinated by the four books that Illyrio had brought. One that preached this foreign faith of this anomaly.

She was taken aback by how convincing it all was. The stories of heroes had immersed her fully.

The tale of the brave Mulan specifically. The law of this faith spoke of justice and fairness that she had not heard any other faith speak off.

Women were equal to men, able to inherit and to rule. Viserys had laughed hard at that.

One of the books spoke of the world. It said that the world was a sphere. And that the sun was a hot ball of white fire. How light was the fastest thing in the world.

It all sounded ridiculous but the reasons were far from it. It spoke of a certain kind of force, gravity keeping all things together.

All of it made too much sense.

The red priests had called it blasphemy but people all over Pentos were being swayed by the foreign faith. It granted what others did not. Mercy.

Illyrio had spoke about the changes that had been made, how this emperor had rebuild the entirety of Slavers bay and had his own massive army, one of trained soldiers.

One day Illyrio had proposed Viserys a marriage pact. One between her and Emperor Helios.

This was not what she wanted but she would not deny the fact that this new marriage was better then the one she would have had with the Dothraki horselord.

She was curious to meet the man who had changed the world so quickly, the one who had written such beautiful books. Was he truly a God- Emperor.

She would know soon enough.

HELIOS (POV) :

The integration of the Dothraki sea had been as well as one could hope.

The prospect of a better life had been enough to sway all the remaining people. The roads were already almost complete.

And the benefits were already seen. Helios had seen the rise of new towns near Vaes Dothrak, which was now a ruin.

The land there was fertile, the Dothraki had sense to not put salt there atleast.

There had been a significant rise in his ranks. Young men and women had come from all over the Dothraki sea to look for work in the new cities of Roman bay.

And they were in luck, the continuous development had left need for many new workers.

Many young men from all over Essos had joined the army. Which now had stood at a 120,000 strong.

40,000 cavalry and 80,000 infantry.

Some Sellsword companies had pledged fealty as well. That made up an additional 10,000 men.

The police force had expanded to form outposts on the roads. Each of the three cities had atleast 10,000 active police men.

The fleet had stood at about 300 ships. Each city had maintained a good amount of ships even before Helios had conquered them, it was needed to maintain slave trade.

But what mattered most to him at the moment was not the logistics but the marriage.

Quentyn Martell had shown up to Macedon, He was not much of a looker but he was a Prince. Alys was easily taken by his naive dornish charm.

The Martells had already been told that Westeros’s time will come and he had told them that Alys would be the lady Hightower when Westeros was taken.

But he had also made it clear to them that they would not ignore their duty to their king. They will provide aid The the watch. That was beyond debate.

And Oberyn had agreed.

The marriage was to take place in a month and then perhaps he could compensate for All that he had taken from the poor girl.
