Every lab was filled with poor souls forced into grunt work. For these ordinary people who had been coerced, Andrew simply gave them a friendly karate chop to knock them out before laying them gently onto their seats.
He even thoughtfully draped pure white blankets over them to prevent them from catching a chill. The only thing was, his coverage was a bit... generous, completely shrouding each person.
After all, he planned on letting the police handle the cleanup, and Andrew had no desire for his file at the station to change from ’Helpful Good Samaritan’ to ’Indiscriminate Psychotic Killer.’
With a flick of his grappling hook, he yanked the guy rushing for the alarm right in front of him. One punch sent the last person in this lab into a not-so-peaceful slumber. Andrew let out a soft sigh.
Thanks to the excellent soundproofing, the distance between rooms, and Andrew’s own god-tier stealth (read: berserker) skills, he had almost successfully cleared out the entire research institute.
"Oh, right. Belle, give Zhu Yuan a call for me."
The best way to get this whole mess officially classified was to blow the lid wide open—and the bigger the explosion, the better.
Besides, if it hadn’t been for Zhu Yuan’s questions, Andrew never would have even considered clones. He would’ve just marveled at the fact that New Eridu had a set of undecaplets.
So, he’d consider giving her the credit for this as a little thank you.
"No problem! Want me to disguise it?"
Andrew nodded and replied,
"Of course. Fake number, three layers of route encryption, and dual voice modulation. Add the physical barrier of my helmet, and that should just about do it."
"So cautious? It’d probably be fine even if you used your real voice."
Although Belle was a bit puzzled, she still worked quickly, configuring the equipment. She set up the fake number, encrypted the route, and tuned the voice modulator, her movements swift and efficient.
"I’m willing to trust Zhu Yuan, but I don’t trust everyone else at Public Security to be so upright. If our information as the whistleblowers gets leaked, it’d be bad if they came after us later."
Just then, Wise chimed in, saying:
"I also think it’s better to be cautious. You say that as if our identities as Proxies being exposed is no big deal."
"Oh..."
It felt like Wise had just remotely poked Belle in the head through the H.D.D. system. Even Eous subconsciously put on a wronged expression.
But getting poked in the head didn’t affect Belle’s efficiency. The interface quickly switched to the dialing screen, where Zhu Yuan’s little tomato avatar blinked, quietly waiting for her to answer.
Within a few seconds, the call connected.
Based on Andrew’s understanding of Zhu Yuan, the diligent rising star of Public Security was probably working overtime at her desk.
Hearing the faint sounds of bustling movement and the distinct slurp of someone sipping tea in the background, Andrew knew his guess was spot on.
"Officer Zhu Yuan. Hope you’ve been well."
Before Zhu Yuan could even speak, Andrew seized the initiative. The androgynous voice on the other end of the line immediately put her on high alert.
She glanced up, signaling to Qingyi, who was sipping tea beside her. The latter understood instantly.
A glint flashed in Qingyi’s eyes. She silently held up three fingers—three minutes—and the light in her eyes intensified.
Their coordination was seamless; the entire exchange took no more than a second or two. Zhu Yuan replied, her expression unchanged.
"Who are you? What do you want with me?"
"Who I am isn’t important. What’s important is that, as far as I know, you’re very interested in the case of a certain lab conducting illegal human cloning experiments. Am I right?"
Zhu Yuan, who had been frustrated by her lack of progress all day, was suddenly energized. But... how did this person know she was investigating this?
She hadn’t questioned that many people, and most of them were acquaintances. Could it be... was she being followed without even realizing it?!
But right now, Zhu Yuan had no time to worry about a potential tail. A far more important case had completely captured her attention.
"Of course. You mean... you have a lead on this? Name your price."
"No, no, no. I’m just an aspiring good Samaritan, a concerned citizen doing my duty. I’m just here to file a report."
A concerned citizen from Chaoyang Street? Is there even a street with that name in New Eridu?
But before she could dwell on it, Andrew spoke again,
"Aegis Umbrella, on the Outer Ring. On the surface, it’s an ordinary biomedical research institute, but in reality, they’ve been conducting illegal human cloning experiments."
As he spoke, Andrew sent over a few evidence photos he’d just taken, along with a small portion of intel. He even thoughtfully included the coordinates for the Aegis Company and continued:
"Everything you want to know is there. You have an hour, tops. Any later, and it might just become an eternal mystery. I’m sure Officer Zhu Yuan wouldn’t want the criminals to slip away because she was late, would she?"
Without waiting for Zhu Yuan’s reply, Andrew decisively hung up, foiling her plan to stall for time.
She looked at Qingyi, who shook her head in regret.
Less than a minute... trying to crack it on the fly without any prep was just too much to ask.
Zhu Yuan wasn’t discouraged. After all, the call had been surprisingly straightforward, as if it really were just a good Samaritan calling in a tip.
"Don’t lose heart, little Zhu Yuan. I couldn’t find the origin or the caller’s true identity, but I did manage to strip away the voice modulator!"
Qingyi closed her left eye, held up a finger, and waggled it gently.
"Wanna have a listen?"
Zhu Yuan nodded silently. With the call ended, the thought of a potential stalker rushed back into her mind.
But as the original audio played, Zhu Yuan felt a strange sense of familiarity with the voice, yet it didn’t match anyone in her memory.
’Could it be? Do I really have a stalker?’
Andrew’s cautious use of a voice modulator, combined with the physical alteration from his helmet and his subconscious lowering of his voice to sound mysterious...
...all these layers stacked up to produce the perfect effect. Zhu Yuan couldn’t place the voice with anyone she knew.
Judging from the content of the call, it didn’t seem like this person had any ill intentions, at least for now. Zhu Yuan classified them as a temporarily cooperative contact.
Besides, just as the caller said, time was of the essence. The Aegis Company matter was clearly the top priority.
After Qingyi verified it from multiple angles, the intel the caller sent was confirmed to be accurate.
Zhu Yuan stood up without hesitation, immediately consolidating the received files with the intel she’d gathered previously, and headed for Deputy Chief Bragg’s office.
After hanging up, Andrew looked at the intel in his hands.
Andrew redacted all the personal information of the Silver Squad, made a fresh copy, and just like that, an intel package for Zhu Yuan was ready.
He glanced again at the list in his hand; most of the names on it had already been checked off,
In fact, with the intelligence he’d gathered from the various labs, Andrew had even added several more names to it.
Based on their deeds, Andrew had sorted them into different punishment tiers: ’full paralysis,’ ’half paralysis,’ and ’quarter paralysis.’ There were no lighter sentences, only heavier ones. And if their crimes proved worse than expected, their tier was bumped up accordingly.
And so, the researchers ’voluntarily’ accepted Andrew’s iron fists.
It wasn’t that no one tried to fight back with weapons. But against Andrew’s defense, knife tips simply shattered, and rifle bullets did nothing more than add a little spark effect to his armor.
All that remained now was the most important name, the one at the very top of the list: none other than the director of this research institute—Wesker.
They say you should save the main course for last. Just as Andrew was about to ask Belle if she’d spotted the bastard on the monitors, her call came in first:
"Andrew! I see Anby and the others suddenly gathering on the monitors! Wesker from the list and someone named An are there too!"
"Perfect. Saves me the trouble of hunting him down!"
Seeing that he had no idea anything was wrong with the institute, a wicked grin spread across Andrew’s face. Then, he shot off toward the target location at top speed.
