I quickly pulled out of her, and the sight of her dazed, lust-filled grin almost made me want to go for another round. But... right, we were still in a dungeon, and I still had people waiting for me.
Another round would have to wait.
"W-Was that it?" she asked, but I kissed her before she could complain any further, long enough to leave her at least somewhat satisfied.
"Let’s continue once we’re no longer inside a dungeon."
"You plan to bring me out...?"
"Of course. What else did you think I was planning?"
Reina’s eyes widened at my response before she let out an amused, genuine laugh. "No, nothing. I should have suspected that."
I laughed with her as I got out of bed, already moving to put on my clothes before heading to the last chamber, but I stopped the moment I pulled on my pants.
Reina was still naked, and I definitely wasn’t about to let her show herself off to my soldiers or anyone waiting outside the portal. I knew she was a succubus, but if she was going to be mine, I definitely wasn’t letting anyone else see her like that.
"Here."
I tossed my shirt to her. It was sweaty and bloody, but it would have to do. She didn’t seem to mind, though. She even lifted it to her nose, and a grin lit up her face when she caught my scent.
"What’s this for?"
"Clothes."
"Oh, right!" Reina laughed again, already moving to put it on. It made sense; she was a succubus. Wearing clothes was probably the last thing on her mind, especially after the act we just did.
"Forgot that anyone outside our kind isn’t so comfortable with being bare."
"It’s not just that."
"Hm?"
"I also don’t want anyone else seeing you like that. Only me."
"C-Cassian... you really are a special incubus, huh?"
"Of course I am."
I finished buckling my belt as Reina tugged the shirt over her head. It hung past her hips, the fabric stained and crumpled, but she wore it like it was made of silk. Her tail swished behind her, curling at the tip, and she smoothed her hands down the front of the shirt with a satisfied little hum.
"Better?" she asked, tilting her head.
"Much." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
I offered her my hand, and she took it without hesitation. Her fingers laced through mine like we’d done this a hundred times before. Her palm was warm, almost hot, and I felt the faint pulse of her magic humming just beneath her skin.
The chamber’s silks rustled as we passed, and the ambient magic that had pressed against me earlier now parted like water around a stone. The dungeon recognized something had changed.
It just wasn’t sure what. Guess it expected Reina to die, not... whatever I just did.
Reina kept close to my side as we walked toward the corridor, her bare feet silent against the stone. Every few steps, she glanced up at me, like she was checking something.
"You keep looking at me like I’m a ghost," I said.
"Sorry." Her cheeks flushed. "It’s just... I’ve been alone in here for so long. I keep expecting to wake up."
"You’re not dreaming."
"I know." She squeezed my hand. "That’s what scares me."
The corridor beyond the silk chamber was different now. Where before the walls had been rough stone and broken runes, now they were smooth and polished, lit by a soft, golden glow that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once.
"Cassian," Reina said quietly, "I can feel it. The core. It’s... it’s curious about you."
"Curious?"
"Yes. It’s never encountered anyone like you before. As for what exactly... I’m not really sure."
We reached the end of the corridor, and the final chamber opened before us.
It was smaller than the others, maybe thirty feet across, with walls of smooth obsidian that reflected the golden light like mirrors. The ceiling arched high overhead, disappearing into shadows, and the floor was covered in a thick layer of soft moss that muffled every sound.
And at the center of the chamber, floating a few feet above the ground, was the core.
It was beautiful.
A sphere of pure, shifting light, maybe the size of my fist. The colors swirled within it like living things, blues and golds and deep, rich violets. It pulsed slowly, and with each pulse, I felt something brush against my consciousness, tentative and curious.
Like it was tasting me.
"What do you see?" Reina asked, her voice hushed.
"You can’t see it?"
Reina shook her head. "I can feel it, but not really see it. Guess it’s because I’m part of this place?"
"I see."
I stepped forward, and the moss muffled my footsteps. The core pulsed faster as I approached, the colors swirling more intensely, and the golden light in the chamber seemed to brighten.
Reina stayed at the edge of the room, her hand slipping from mine. When I looked back, she was watching me with wide, uncertain eyes.
"You’re not coming closer?"
"I... I don’t think I should." She wrapped her arms around herself, her tail curling tightly against her leg. "This is your victory, after all. You deserve to reach that core by yourself."
"You helped heal me. That should be enough for you to stand by my side."
She shook her head again, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Stop being stubborn. I’m the one choosing this."
"Fine, but just know you did help a lot." I nodded and turned back to the core.
"I’ll keep that in mind.
It floated at eye level now, close enough to touch. The light within it had settled into a steady, rhythmic pulse, like a heartbeat. When I raised my hand, I felt warmth radiating from it, gentle and inviting.
[Core Interaction Detected]
[Available Actions:]
[Destroy - Permanently eliminate the dungeon core. All dungeon-created beings will cease to exist: Random Dungeon Loot]
[Claim - Bind the dungeon core to yourself. The dungeon and all its contents become your power through the system: +1 Skill Point (Any Tree)]
’Will any of my choices affect Reina?’
[Negative, previous action had already unbound her from the dungeon]
[Extra Information: Claiming a dungeon binds it to your soul, allowing you to open it at will and use it whenever you wish.]
’So like a portable home?’
[Yes]
So basically, I can just pick anything, right?
Well, loot from an A-Ranked dungeon versus a single measly skill point and a portable home...
I know it lets me invest in any tree, but still... it doesn’t exactly scream important like the first one did. As for the dungeon itself, it was tempting... but it wasn’t really something I needed right now.
What I needed most was definitely loot to get stronger, and an A-Rank dungeon is definitely a good source of that.
Still, it could definitely be a good option in the future. This likely won’t be the last dungeon I’ll see after all.
For now, the choice is obvious.
"Destroy."
"I thought you were going to claim it?"
"I changed my mind. I kind of hate the dungeon core for leaving you all alone here."
It was a white lie, but one that definitely made her smile.
"You’re such a smooth talker..."
