- Chapter 1: Deaths Door
I started rushing back down the hallway where my room is since there is another way to get around. The only problem is that I can hear more humans shouting in the distance.
More humans mean that I must be getting closer to finding Mom, Astaria, or Lukas. There is no other reason they’d be shouting... Unless I’m missing something here.
The other family isn’t here so I shouldn’t have to worry about them, at least not right now I don’t.
I continued to make my way down the hallway until I finally wrapped around the corner. Finding nothing but corpses waiting for me... This is brutal.
It takes a moment but then I realized that the bodies are from the same men who attacked us in the first place.
"There’s hope," I said softly while looking up from the bodies.
Ahead of me I can sense them; my family is definitely ahead but I don’t know what to expect with everything I’ve seen.
Within a few moments I find myself at the end of the hallway, at an open door with light just barely peeking in through the windows. In front of me I can see my mother with her long black hair, red eyes, and lovely white dress staring back at me.
"Dante you’re alive, thank god. We have to find Lukas and Astaria," Mom said with worry in her voice.
"Then let’s go, no need to waste time," I replied with a serious tone.
Mom followed behind me as we continued down the hallway in search of the others. Gunfire rang in the distance, echoing off the walls; yet someone is still fighting off the attackers.
It is obvious that my father would do his best to protect everyone while I get our family out safely. At least that’s the goal at hand here, not that it is going to be easy with their numbers towering against ours.
We’re not at our strongest anymore either... Especially with how long we’ve kept away from feeding on humans.
I’m probably stronger than my father right now which is why it was dumb to send me away from the fight. I’m invigorated with quite a bit of power. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
I’d happily kill them if it means protecting what’s left of our kind.
"Dante we are reaching Astaria’s room," Mom spoke up.
"Be ready for anything," I warned.
I pushed open the door to see the sight of my sister dead on the ground, bullet wounds through her chest. There was no possibility of survival for her; These hunters are ruthless with the methods being used against us.
Gunpowder laced with traces of silver, silver swords, and I’m sure someone is using magic.
At least that would be the normal thought process if humans did rely on magic but everything else is true. Silver weaponry is quite strong and I wouldn’t want to get caught off guard.
Deadly mistake.
But none of that matters right now since my little sister is dead, not a single thing can be done here. She’s not going to be able to come back and if she’s dead... What would that mean for Lukas?
I clenched my fist as I looked back towards the door.
Mom went over and held my sister for a little while... Just we don’t have a lot of time to sit around. These bastards are going to continue till the place is burned to the ground.
BANG!!!!!
My thoughts drifted away as I turned to see the splatter of my mother’s head; the bullet went clean through in an instant... Meaning someone was waiting for us.
ROLL!! THUD!!
I rolled out from sight and quickly got back on my feet, keeping my sword in hand as I listened for a few moments.
"There’s another one here! He ran out the room!" The man shouted with a serious, yet worried tone.
"We’ll find him. They never get far," Another man responded with certainty in his voice.
Misery. Misery, that is all this is. Having to go through all of this like it is something we deserve but we don’t. We never tried to hurt them before and even stayed away from our traditional roots.
But somehow this is the price we pay for being good people. This is the price that I’ll never pay again because I’m not going to live that way anymore.
I killed a couple of them already and even got to drink some blood... I’m feeling quite angry about this all.
Footsteps get closer as I stand there with my hand clenching harder onto my sword, yet I don’t find it easy to move.
"Dante get out of here!" A voice shouted in the distance.
It sounds like my father is yelling for me to leave but he doesn’t know that the others died. Maybe not Lukas, but mom and Astaria are dead.
Both murdered in cold blood by humans who just think we are monsters.
Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.
My heart is racing just thinking about the amount of them that I can kill before getting killed myself.
"It is better to just go," I manage to say calmly.
Yes, just leave. Leaving behind this place is all I can do now while I’m still in one piece... Except I’m not all together. My brain is collapsing on itself from grief.
Grief is something we never really worry about right? No, humans don’t know a damn thing about vampires... Except how to kill us.
SLAM!!
My fist breaks part of the wall before I rush off through one of the doors at the end of the hallway; eventually finding myself outside, away from where they attacked us.
The back of our home is quite peaceful compared to everything happening in the front but leaving the others behind is brutal.
I find myself staring back at the manor while smoke starts to rise above it, slowly telling me that everything is done for. But this is even more of a reason for me to go before we end up extinct.
They’ll all be dead by the time I find a place to rest.
