Azriel leaned back into the plush upholstery, his violet eyes scanning the dense, elegant script of Understanding Tartarus: Continents, Empires, and Races.
Thanks to his host’s integrated linguistic memory and his own enhanced cognition, the complex, foreign characters translated seamlessly in his mind.
He skipped right past the bloated, poetic introductions written by ancient scholars, locking directly onto the core structural data of the world he now inhabited.
According to the text, the world of Tartarus was a colossal, brutal ecosystem defined by a strict hierarchy of power.
True to his initial impressions, it was a deeply matriarchal world.
The planet was divided into six massive continents, each dominated by distinct forces:
Gorgoroth: The savage Beast Continent ruled by powerful demi-human clans and beast-kin, where he currently resided.
Vael-Durn: The continent of humans and dwarves, relying heavily on a mix of martial prowess and engineering.
Noxterra: The dark, nocturnal continent ruled entirely by the high vampire covens.
Sylvathis: The vast, ancient forests ruled by the isolationist elves.
Zul’Kharith: The catastrophic, high-energy continent ruled by the legendary dragon races.
Flipping the page, Azriel’s eyes caught a stark, heavily redacted section.
There was a sixth continent, but it was marked strictly as a forbidden land.
The text provided absolutely no name, geographical features, or historical data about it, just a glaring, universal warning to stay away.
He was incredibly curious about this mystery continent, but given that it was literally scrubbed from a royal library’s archives, he knew it was a problem for a much stronger version of himself.
He mentally tabled it and read further.
His eyes scanned a highly detailed, hand-drawn map of Gorgoroth.
The Beast Continent was a cutthroat territory fractured into various empires and kingdoms based on bloodlines.
Currently, he was residing within The Sekhmet Empire, a powerful nation ruled by the imperial Ro’Khan race, a dominant lineage of lion beast-kin.
The House of Bastet, led by Rosalind, was one of the three absolute pillars of this empire, holding immense political sway and commanding a devastating military sovereignty.
’So it really is a matriarchal hellscape out there,’ Azriel muttered to himself, tracing his finger over the sharp borders of Gorgoroth.
The book explicitly detailed the biological reality of Tartarus, the ambient Aether in this world naturally favored female biology for high-tier Awakenings, making women fundamentally stronger, faster, and more magically adaptive.
In contrast, men were largely viewed as genetic batteries to pass down prestigious bloodlines, or aesthetic trophies to show off wealth and status.
Azriel turned to the next page, a dark smirk playing on his lips.
’No wonder the original owner of this body gave up. The deck was completely stacked against him. Good thing I was blessed by Seraphine in a rigged game.’
He continued reading the book in exhaustive detail.
Since he was obviously going to explore this vast world, he needed to know exactly what he would be facing.
More importantly, he wanted to understand the other races so he could figure out how to tame their women.
With so many diverse races in Tartarus, there would be all types of exotic women to have fun with.
He smiled lustily, his violet eyes gleaming with anticipation as he turned the pages.
Before he knew it, the afternoon sun had dipped toward the horizon.
Azriel was so thoroughly lost in his reading that he failed to notice Rosalind approaching, her footsteps completely silent.
He was just digging into a Chapter explaining how humans and dwarves had formed a historic alliance to pioneer technological advancements, when he was abruptly startled by Rosalind screaming directly into his ear.
"Fuck!" Azriel yelled loudly, tumbling straight out of the plush armchair and hitting the pristine marble floor.
When he looked up and saw it was Rosalind, he heaved a heavy breath and said in a thoroughly annoyed tone, "Hey, Rose, what the hell? I was actually scared out of my skin just now, you know."
Rosalind threw her head back and laughed at him, her golden eyes sparkling with mischief.
"It was worth it. Watching your expression was far too much fun."
Azriel scrambled back to his feet, a dangerous smile spreading across his face.
He stepped right into her personal space and caught her by the waist, his fingers aggressively tickling her sides.
"Oh, it was fun, huh? Let’s see how much fun this is!"
"Azriel, wait, hahaha! Stop!" she gasped, squirming against his hands.
They teased and wrestled with each other right there in the open.
If any noble or servant from the Sekhmet Empire were to witness the cold, untouchable Duchess acting like a playful teenager with a male, their jaws would have shattered upon hitting the floor.
As they played, Azriel caught her by the shoulders and forcefully pressed her back against a nearby reading table, unknowingly letting his innate, domineering side bleed through.
Rosalind didn’t mind the rough handling at all, she was too caught up in the playful mood, her breath hitching as he leaned down, completely intending to capture her lips.
But just as his mouth was inches from hers, an old, raspy voice echoed through the aisle.
"Rosalind. I am well aware you have finally found a male worthy of your attention, but don’t you think it is highly inappropriate to perform this nonsense in my library? And worse yet, allowing yourself to be led around by a man."
Hearing the voice, Azriel instantly froze.
It was the old librarian from the front desk.
A sudden realization struck him, drawing from all the webnovels he had read back on Earth.
’Shit... I completely forgot the golden rule. Every single librarian in these worlds is always overpowered as fuck. Thank god I was polite to her when I walked in, even when she didn’t give a flying fuck about me.’
He mentally patted himself on the back.
The woman pinned beneath him, however, reacted very differently.
Rosalind’s elegant facade completely contorted into an expression Azriel had never seen before.
Snapping her head toward the voice, she bared her fangs and shouted, "Fuck you, you old hag! Mind your own damn business! You’re literally thousands of years old and still haven’t tasted a single man, you bitter old bitch!"
’Damn, I am liking her more and more by the second,’ Azriel thought, staring down at her with a wide grin.
Hearing such crude, unhinged insults fly out of that beautiful, noble mouth was incredibly amusing.
But his amusement was brutally cut short.
From the direction of the front desk, a catastrophic surge of energy erupted.
A set of ceiling-high claws, manifested from pure, glowing silver Aether, ripped through the aisle, tearing toward them with blinding, instantaneous speed.
The air temperature violently plummeted to sub-zero.
As the massive construct surged forward, Azriel’s instincts screamed in absolute terror.
He knew with absolute certainty that if that terrifying silver energy even came within ten meters of him, he would be frozen to death before he could even blink.
