"You have the power to do it?"
Lesley muttered, her eyes fixed on Robert’s battered body after he was flung aside by the wyvern’s tail.
She looked down at her arms. Faint arcs of energy flickered beneath her skin.
’Yeah... I have the power to take that thing down.’ 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
’I can save these people.’
But her breath caught in her throat.
’Would that be fair?’
’Why now? Why use it here—when I didn’t use it for Whisper?’
’He was dying.’
’If I’d used it then... maybe he’d still be alive.’
’But I didn’t.’
’I used it to save myself.’
A bitter taste filled her mouth.
’I’m selfish... aren’t I?’
’So why did I even agree to help these people?’
***
Eleven Years Ago...
Somewhere in the middle of the ocean.
Inside the main ship.
BANG! BANG!
"Alert! Alert!"
"Subject on the run, I repeat, subject on the run!"
"Arrgh! Intruders on board—sector three compromised!"
BOOM!
The deck rocked.
Sirens blared. The air smelled of smoke and blood.
Inside a cramped storage room, little Lesley trembled, hidden in a box.
She didn’t know what was happening, only that it was all somehow... because of her.
Gunfire echoed. Screams pierced the air.
Minutes felt like hours.
Eventually, the noise dulled. Only the sound of distant groans and sparking wires remained.
Then she heard it,
"Lesley..."
A voice. Male. Familiar.
Her heart thundered.
’Uncle Rey said I shouldn’t come out.’
’But... what should I do?’
She hesitated, until a rough, pained voice stopped her cold.
"H-Ha... y-you’ll never find her."
It was Rey.
He was still alive.
"I told my men... to get her out through the submarine."
Then came the sound of impact—a sickening crunch as a fist met flesh.
"Do you know how rare that girl is?" a different man growled.
"Why wait until now to take her? Why not do it before the Black Stone melted into her?"
Rey spat out blood.
"Y-You monsters... changed her mana veins... If I’d taken her earlier, she’d have died in two days without the Black Stone’s energy."
"But now... she can survive... without—"
Another brutal hit silenced him.
"You think I’ll let this go, Rey?"
"I’ll kill you. Slowly. Painfully."
"And don’t worry—no matter where she runs, I’ll find her. I have eyes everywhere. She’ll be back in chains before the week ends."
Lesley pressed her palms to her ears, but nothing could block out the agony in Rey’s screams.
’Why...?’
She was happy here.
After her parents died, Rey and the others adopted her.
They gave her her favorite food. Let her play games. Told her bedtime stories.
So why was everything falling apart?
Tears welled in her eyes.
She couldn’t stay hidden.
’If I talk to them... if I explain... they’ll understand, right?’
’They liked me. I liked them.’
With that fragile hope, she pushed the box open.
The scene outside shattered her world.
Rey was bound to a metal beam. Both his eyes had been gouged out. His limbs pierced with knives like he was a doll torn apart.
Yet he still breathed.
Barely.
Lesley’s eyes widened in horror.
"S-Stop it!"
Her voice cracked.
The white-haired man slowly turned, his smirk widening.
Rey panicked.
"Lesley?! What are you doing?! Go hide!"
But it was too late.
The man’s grin twisted.
"So, the submarine story was a lie."
"You’re still here, little bitch."
"Looks like I gave you too much freedom."
He stepped forward.
"Guess I’ll just—"
RUMBLE.
The ship shook violently.
Cracks tore across the ceiling as light poured through.
The metal roof peeled open, revealing the night sky above.
The massive ten-mile vessel was floating.
And not just this one.
The entire fleet of warships around them were suspended in the air like toys lifted by an invisible hand.
Then she saw him.
A lone figure, floating in the moonlight.
Flaming red hair whipped behind him, and his amber eyes glowed like miniature suns.
He hovered in silence—his expression unreadable.
But there was power in the stillness.
Divine. Unshakeable.
Like a god observing his pitiful creations.
The white-haired man froze. Sweat poured down his face.
"W-Who... who the hell is that?"
Rey, broken and blind, still managed a trembling smile.
His lips barely moved, but Lesley heard the words clearly.
"Y-You’re... finally here..."
"Sir Exile."
Then Exile raised a single hand.
With a flick of his fingers, he spoke—two words that echoed through the broken sky.
"SPACE POINT."
Reality bent.
Everything shifted.
And then,
Silence.
No people.
No soldiers.
No warships.
Just the massive, hollow vessel... and two souls left within it: a frightened girl and a man on the edge of death.
Lesley stood frozen—until her legs moved on their own.
She stumbled toward Rey, eyes wide with panic.
"Uncle Rey... what’s happening? W-What should I do? How do I stop the blood?"
Rey coughed. A thin stream of red trickled from the corner of his lips.
Still, he smiled.
"A-Ah... Lesley... there’s no way to save me now," he rasped.
"I’ll die in a few minutes."
"But at least..."
"At least, I was able to... save you."
Tears streamed down her face.
"Why?" she choked out. "Why did you save me? If you didn’t... you could’ve lived, right?"
Rey’s breaths grew shallow. His heart slowed.
"Because..."
"...I had the power to do it."
And with those words,
He was gone.
Exile stood at a distance.
Silent. Still.
He watched without a word, letting grief run its course.
Then, slowly, he walked forward.
He stopped beside Lesley and gently placed a hand on her head.
"...Let’s go."
She looked up, her body trembling, eyes clouded with fear and confusion.
Exile didn’t rush her.
Instead, he bent down and lifted Rey’s lifeless body onto his shoulder with reverence.
Then, he extended a hand to her.
"Will you come with me?"
"I’ll take you somewhere safe... away from this cursed world."
"And maybe... if you’re willing—will you help me build a better one? A world where you can be free?"
Lesley hesitated.
But then, slowly... she took his hand.
He looked down at her, his expression unreadable.
"What’s your name?" he asked gently.
She sniffled. "L-Lesley."
He shook his head.
"What’s your real name?"
She blinked. "Lesley’s real name is... Lesley."
A soft sigh escaped his lips.
"What are your parents’ names?"
Lesley paused. Thought for a moment.
"My mother’s name was... Reyna. My father’s name was Lucus."
The first rays of dawn broke over the horizon.
The sun rose.
Orange light spilled across the ocean’s endless surface.
Exile looked out at the sea.
Then he turned back to her and placed a hand on her head once more.
And with quiet finality, he said,
"From now on, your real name is..."
"Reyna Lucus."
