Hua Yusen looked at the bruised and battered Zhao Nuanyue, his heart aching for her.

Zhao Nuanyue’s clothes had been torn to shreds, so Hua Yusen could only wrap her body in a blanket before carrying her out.

After all, they were the ones who had delivered Zhao Nuanyue into Mrs. Li’s hands. Now that Mrs. Li and Li Jianfeng had been arrested, her own family would surely be implicated.

Wang Lianhua’s mind raced as she ran. Just as she arrived at her son’s workplace, she saw Zhao Jinghai being escorted out.

But now, with Li Jianfeng’s family from the Du Xi Unit having been taken away, everyone was on edge and trying to protect themselves. No one dared to say much, so even though Wang Lianhua was making a huge scene, nobody paid her any mind.

Seeing her son being taken away and realizing there was nothing she could do there, Wang Lianhua hurried home.

The arrest of Li Jianfeng and Mrs. Li made it clear that the plot was exposed. It also meant that Zhao Nuanyue had likely been rescued.

Now, the only person who could save her son was Zhao Nuanyue.

Although that blasted girl Zhao Nuanyue wasn’t easy to fool, Wang Lianhua was confident. She decided she would get to her through Xia Yingyu.

When she got home, Xia Yingyu was still resting.

"Yingyu, Jinghai’s been arrested!" Wang Lianhua said urgently. "That Mrs. Li is a real piece of work! She threatened us, demanded that we make Nuanyue her daughter-in-law. We refused, so they had Jinghai arrested!"

Xia Yingyu, still groggy with sleep, thought she must be dreaming when she heard this. She mumbled, "That’s impossible. Even though the Li family is powerful here in Du Xi, they wouldn’t do something so outrageous and illegal, something that defies all reason!"

"Don’t be so naive! Jinghai has been arrested! You need to get up and save him!" Wang Lianhua pulled at Xia Yingyu, trying to make her get up, ignoring the fact that her large belly prevented her from moving so quickly.

Seeing her mother-in-law’s frantic behavior, Xia Yingyu finally understood that this was really happening.

"Oh god, how could this happen?" Hearing her mother-in-law’s words, Xia Yingyu finally snapped out of her daze. She was immediately overwhelmed with panic, at a complete loss, and tears started streaming down her face.

Seeing Xia Yingyu like this, Wang Lianhua thought to herself, ’This daughter-in-law of mine is completely useless, aside from her pretty face. The moment trouble strikes, all she knows how to do is cry. She can’t think of a single solution! My son must have been bewitched by this vixen’s looks to fall for a woman like this. She has no ideas of her own when things go wrong.’

Xia Yingyu quickly got dressed and went out to ask for news.

However, she suddenly felt that the way everyone was looking at her was strange. But she had no time to dwell on it, guessing that the stares were probably because her husband had been arrested.

Just as Xia Yingyu walked out of the entrance to the work unit’s family dormitories, she ran into Aunt Wang.

"Yingyu, your husband’s been taken away," Aunt Wang said, her eyes showing a mixture of schadenfreude, relief, and pity. "I heard that to get a promotion, your husband offered up your daughter to be the wife of Li Jianfeng’s fool of a son."

"What?" Xia Yingyu was stunned. "Heavens, no! That’s impossible! My daughter and son are still in Jincheng City! They aren’t supposed to be back for a few more days!"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk." Aunt Wang tutted, looking at the bewildered Xia Yingyu. The woman was always so confused at crucial moments, unwilling to accept reality. "Your daughter was just carried out of the villa. They only found your daughter, though. No one knows where your son is..."

Hearing this, Xia Yingyu’s face turned pale. She remembered what her husband had said that morning—that their daughter and son were in Jincheng City for tutoring and would be back in a few days.

Was the woman in front of her lying, or was Zhao Jinghai the one who lied?

Hua Yusen was by Zhao Nuanyue’s side, taking care of her. When Zhao Nuanyue woke up, the ceiling seemed to be spinning. Dizzy and disoriented, she turned her head and saw Hua Yusen sitting beside her. Only then did she realize that she had truly been saved.

She had thought her desperate cries would go unanswered, that she was utterly helpless. She never imagined that at the brink of life and death, Hua Yusen would come to save her.
