"Perfect... this gives me more than enough time. Sneaking past their armies will still be difficult, but not impossible."

The real problem was the land where he had first appeared. On the map, it was marked as a narrow strip in the southwest, just outside the true borders of the dragon clans, a strange corridor of unclaimed ground that cut through the region like a scar and linked north to south. It was neither fully Fire nor Ice, more like a forgotten passage dividing the map through its middle.

Two other places caught his attention. Both were marked with the symbol of a skull. One lay north of the Thunder lands, the other to the west of them. They had been painted over in black, as if someone had tried not merely to warn others away, but to erase those regions from memory.

The rest of the map ended in names without borders, like the edges of a world not yet fully known. To the east lay the Dwarven Region. To the north roamed the Barbaric Nomads. Far to the west stretched the Human Realm. And to the south, beyond the Wind Empire, spread the Elven Forest...

A soft knock came at the door deep into the evening, drawing his eyes toward it. The old wood creaked open, and the first thing that met his gaze was a pair of delicate legs, pale as snow.
