’What the...’ he thought.

*Spit*

Rinsing his face with the cold morning water, he wiped it clean with a towel and headed toward the balcony to breathe in the fresh morning air.

From the seventh floor, he could clearly see the cars, people, and metro trains moving from place to place — below.

His eyes drifted to the right, toward the rooftop of a red and white house where a lady always did meditation and stretching on a yoga mat early in the morning. But today, sadly, she wasn’t there.

A minute later, Nyle returned and began making breakfast — eggs with toasted bread, as usual. Meanwhile, he’s also checking his WinkedIn notifications and saw six rejected job applications pilled up.

...

*Nom-Nom-Nom*

While chewing his breakfast, he glanced at the tasks and began reading them carefully. Clearly, if he somehow managed to complete the first task, he could escape the system’s punishment.

"Fuck... If only if I know, this would happen," he whispered under his breath.

*Nom*

Dropping his plate in the sink, he dressed casually in a light grey T-shirt and black half-track pants, locked his room, and left. This time, he wasn’t heading to the supermarket but to the shopping mall, where there was a high possibility of MILFs gathering.

He had no fixed plan, nor any clever tricks to guide things along — only situational improvisation. But before turning left toward the lift, he crept silently like a ninja and pressed his eye against the peephole of his former school teacher’s door.

’Where is she?’ he wondered, glancing around the living room.

Not seeing Fiona, Nyle turned, walked toward the lift and waited for it to arrive at his floor.

Just then, a hot lady wearing short red pants and a red T-shirt — who looked to be in her mid-twenties, walked energetically up the stairs toward the eighth floor with earpods in her ears.

Distracted, Nyle stared at her back as she vanished up the stairs.

*Ting*

The lift doors opened. Nyle stepped inside instinctively without thinking — only to bump straight into someone. His face collided with something huge and soft.

"Hm!" he grunted, stumbling back and immediately.

"I-I’m so sorry," he said quickly, lowering his head in apology.

"Nyle? What are you doing," Fiona asked, her brows furrowing slightly as a soft, unnoticeable blush colored her cheeks.

"Oh, heh, Mrs. Fiona," he said with an awkward smile, rubbing his back of his head.

She gave a small nod and stepped out of the lift. Nyle brushed past her, awkwardly rubbing his fingers together as he stepped toward the lift. but before he could press the buttons—

"Where are you going?" she asked.

Nyle met her eyes before dropping low. "Just... going for a walk in the park."

Fiona lifted a brow slightly. "Oh, okay."

...

Few seconds later, as the elevator descended, a realisation struck him.

"Shit, I could’ve completed my task," he muttered, staring at the elevator buttons.

Recalling the moment when he had bumped into her, he realised he could have caught her hand and begun acting — by simply apologising and clasping her empty hand between his like a prayer.

It would have been awkward, but it should have done the job smoothly with the given situation. Now, the moment had already passed. But the hunt wasn’t over yet.

...

By the time he arrived at the shopping mall, he had scanned most of the first floor (the food section) and found only two targets — who were the employees, decent-looking, though hardly attractive enough to tempt him into wasting time there.

Ignoring them, he climbed straight to the third floor (the women’s clothing section). But it wasn’t just a clothing section; it was combined with home appliances and household goods.

Whenever Nyle needed something for his apartment, he would casually enter Milon’s Mall — sometimes to buy necessities, but more often simply to enjoy the cold air conditioning.

"One, two... three..." he began counting in his mind as he walked toward the home appliances section.

There were several people around, but only a few women — some in groups of four, others in pairs, and not a single MILF in sight.

Nyle arms widened, as he picked a bedsheet. From a distance, it would look as though he were examining the fabric, but in reality, its not.

His radar-like eyes were busy, scanning the target.

Racks of dresses, blouses, and summer tops created narrow corridors packed with shoppers.

Few minutes later, he spotted the pair of women in the corner, stretching on tiptoe to reach a top on the highest rack.

The racks were overloaded.

The two women reached farther, their heels wobbling. From Nyle’s vantage point, the stack of clothes loomed like a Jenga tower.

He sensed something bad was about to happen.

With no hesitation, he strode toward them.

The closer he got, the more precarious the pile became.

"Excuse—"

*Music*

Before Nyle could finish, his phone rang — the shrill sound of the classical Nokia monophonic ringtone sliced through the silence, while he was only two steps away. His moment slipped away.

Stepping aside quickly, he answered the unknown number. "Agh, who’s this?"

Just then, a man who looked to be in his early forties stepped in and saved the women from the collapsing pile of clothes, stripping Nyle of his chance.

Nyle gritted his teeth as he watched the women praise the man for saving their day. The man blushed softly, scratching the back of his head.

"Hello? Is this Nyle Frost?" a man’s voice came through the phone.

"Yes, it is. Who are you?" said Nyle, his tone sharp with irritation.

"I’m Dover, the owner of Delicacy Donut *Cough*," he said, his tone eager. "I... uh approved your application. But, I need a final confirmation from you.

Do you want the job?"

Nyle gave a small nod to himself. "Yes, yes sir."

"Great. Are you free right now?"

"Yes, sir," said Nyle.

"Since tomorrow is the start of a new month, you’ll need to come in today for an in-person interview at eleven O morning," said Dover, his tone warm and professional.
