Seeing the curious look on Sir Joran’s face, Adrian didn’t know how to reply.
After all, Sir Joran knew about the Space Implosion spell that he had created. In fact, when he had revealed that he could create spells, it had caused quite a commotion.
He still didn’t understand why, though. After all, creating a spell was so easy, and anyone could create one if they studied enough.
But that matter aside, Sir Joran had seen him create an utterly lethal spell, and now he had revealed that he was also trying to remove his presence completely. So he understood how Sir Joran had reached such a conclusion.
’But assassination, huh? So that’s what the infinite dimension spell ended up as.’
Since his excess mana was being released into the dimension, his presence had completely vanished. And it would continue to remain that way unless he canceled the spell.
Well, seems like it amounted to something at least.
Adrian let out a tired sigh.
"Young Master Adrian, is there anything more you wish to tell me? If not, then I will leave you alone so that you can rest. After all, your engagement is only four days away."
Sir Joran’s question broke his chain of thoughts. Lying on the bed, he thought back to everything that had happened from the moment mana began tearing his body apart. He thought about all those strange visions he had seen.
He wanted to discuss all that with Sir Joran, just to be safe. But...
’I can’t mention the vision related to the memory from my previous life.’
Lack of information could lead to him making stupid mistakes, which may result in fatal consequences. Adrian had experienced it moments ago, so he was not willing to take any chances once again. But that didn’t mean he was willing to reveal the fact that he was a reincarnate.
After all, he couldn’t predict the consequences of doing so.
Which meant that he couldn’t discuss any of the visions—
Suddenly, the memory of the very first vision he saw came to his mind. Making his thoughts pause.
’...I can mention that vision, right?’
But that would be risky as well. After all, he didn’t know the reason he had seen all those visions; what if it had something to do with his reincarnation as well?
’No, that’s a risk I need to take.’
He spoke after a brief hesitation.
"Actually, there is one more thing. While I was moments away from death, I saw a strange vision. In that vision, I was in a place of complete and utter darkness. A massive grey sun hung high above, bound in millions of translucent blue chains."
He paused.
"Then I was suddenly pulled into that grey sun and experienced a very strange sensation. The sensation of connecting with all living things, which only lasted for a moment. The vision ended after that. Sir Joran, do you, perhaps, know anything? Maybe about what that vision was or what caused it?"
After he finished speaking, Adrian glanced at Sir Joran. At first, there was an expression of shock on the burly knight’s face, but a wide, easy smile stretched across it moments later.
"Ah, it seems something good came out of this horrible incident, after all. Young Master Adrian, everything you described, seeing the pitch black darkness, the massive grey sun bound in chains, the feeling of being connected to all living things, many others have experienced those exact same things."
He raised a hand, giving Adrian a thumbs-up.
"Congratulations, those are the symptoms one experiences when they awaken their Origin ability. You are the second child in this house to awaken it, and that too at quite a young age."
Adrian furrowed his brow. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
’Strange... that vision is merely a symptom for awakening some ability?’
It didn’t feel like that at all. It felt too... profound. It was as if he had glimpsed something he was never meant to see. That vision couldn’t be something so simplistic.
"Sir Joran, why does everyone experience that vision? What is the meaning behind it?"
"Well," Sir Joran scratched the back of his head. "Nobody really knows. It was quite a huge mystery a few hundred years ago; many people burned through a significant amount of resources to find the answer. But in the end, nobody was able to find even a single clue. By now, everyone has simply given up on understanding it."
His expression suddenly twisted in frustration.
"To be honest, it’s quite a headache for the empire as well. Since nobody knows the true meaning behind the vision, people tend to make some wild speculations. Some even believe that the grey sun is actually a god who was sealed away."
He let out a tired sigh.
"Cults worshiping the grey sun pop up from time to time. They claim that the Primordial Light is an imposter and that the grey sun is the true god who created this world. They even claim that Origin abilities were given to us so that we could free him from his chains. Huh... the imperial family really has its hands full."
Adrian closed his eyes, rubbing his temples.
’That was... a lot to take in.’
Although his question was not answered, he had learned a lot of information. No, perhaps it would be wrong to say that his question was not answered. After all, it had no answer to begin with; that knowledge itself was enough of an answer.
Well, there was no meaning in speculating then. After all, nobody had understood anything, so it was extremely unlikely that he himself would reach any meaningful conclusion.
And besides...
’I have awakened my Origin ability.’
He had given up on his Origin ability and never thought about the topic afterward. After all, there was no method to awaken it at will, so fussing over it would’ve been a waste of time.
But it seems that after a series of failures, luck had finally smiled upon him.
Adrian sat up straight, pulling away the blanket over his body.
"I don’t really feel any difference even after awakening my Origin ability. Sir Joran, is there a way for me to know what my ability is, or get an idea, at least?"
Sir Joran didn’t reply to his question; he only gave Adrian his usual easy smile as he clapped three times, loudly.
Moments later, a servant entered the room, giving a light bow to both of them. Sir Joran ordered the servant to bring something, and the servant left soon after.
Adrian waited quietly, trying to guess what Sir Joran asked the servant to bring since he couldn’t hear it clearly.
After a while, the door opened, and the servant returned, carrying two objects carefully in his hands. He handed both of those things to Sir Joran before giving a light bow and leaving.
He looked at the objects in Sir Joran’s hand.
The first object looked like a broken fragment of a large mirror, its sharp edges covered by a thin metal frame, as if to protect the one holding it from its sharpness. The mirror shard was large, about the size of a hand mirror, which made Adrian wonder how large the original mirror must have been.
The second object was an extremely thick book with a red cover and golden borders. The book’s cover looked neat, and he couldn’t find any folded ends, which suggested that either the book was new or it had been carefully kept and managed.
Sir Joran pointed at the mirror shard.
"Young Master Adrian, this broken piece of mirror is a Fragment Relic, and this will help us find out about what your Origin ability is. If the reflection of someone possessing an Origin Ability is captured in this mirror shard, then it will reveal the name of the ability they possess."
’Quite convenient. But it can be used in different ways too.’
Adrian didn’t know if Origin Abilities were kept secret by people, like trump cards that were only revealed when necessary. But if that were the case, this mirror could be used as a great counter against such people.
"I am ready, please go ahead."
Hearing his words, Sir Joran carefully held the mirror towards him. With the shard facing him, Adrian’s expressionless face appeared within it. As his reflection was captured in the mirror shard, Adrian waited quietly, staring at his reflection as it stared back from within the shard.
Several moments passed in silence.
Then suddenly, Adrian’s reflection within the shard grew blurry as grey letters appeared over its reflective surface.
