- Chapter 1: Logan
The atmosphere remained still, yet a storm had clearly formed—this was the bizarre nature of psychic power. As the so-called "Origin of Life," Mew, also a Psychic-type, may not surpass Mewtwo in raw destructive power, but its unpredictable and diverse abilities left nothing to be desired.
"Meow—"
With a soft and adorable cry like a kitten, a pair of gemlike eyes, blue as the sea, appeared within the pink, cherry-blossom-colored whirlwind. Floating before Logan was a Pokémon barely a meter tall, overwhelmingly cute. Its body was a soft pink, nearly white, with a long tail lazily swaying in the air. Its small hands were like those of a baby, making the whole creature resemble the kind of tiny, cuddly animal that could melt the heart of any girl.
However, anyone who knew the truth about this Pokémon wouldn’t be so relaxed. Mew, rumored to carry the DNA of all Pokémon, was once believed to be the ancestor of every species. It could learn any known move, and while its strength might not top the charts among legendary Pokémon, it still stood as an insurmountable force to ordinary beings.
Mew, having suddenly appeared before Logan, stared at him with gemlike eyes filled with innocence and curiosity. Like a hyperactive child, it darted back and forth in the air, never still, true to Mewtwo’s earlier description—it never touched the ground, always using its psychic power to float. And even now, its gaze was locked curiously on Logan and the Poké Ball resting on his chest.
That puzzled expression on its tiny face seemed to say: "Why do I suddenly have a kid when I’ve never even gotten married?"
"Meow?"
As a legendary Pokémon, Mew instinctively sensed the connection between the being inside the Poké Ball—Mewtwo—and itself. It could also feel Mewtwo’s terrifying power. Thus, it didn’t act aggressively at all. Instead, it carefully floated a bit closer to Logan, seemingly trying to get a better look.
Not wanting to be too close to this dangerous being—no matter how adorable it looked—Logan instinctively stepped back as Mew approached. This reaction startled Mew so badly that it jerked away like a frightened bunny, hiding behind a tree and peeking out cautiously.
"Meow...?"
Its body shimmered faintly with a gentle glow, like a beacon in the dark forest, announcing its presence in this world of shadows.
"..."
Logan stood there silently. He’d been so cautious this whole time, yet this legendary Pokémon turned out to be ridiculously timid and curious, like a child who never grew up.
Mew blinked its big eyes, its expression caught between hesitation and interest. It wanted to get closer but was clearly unsettled by Mewtwo’s immense presence.
"Gible, give it a taste of Dragon Breath!"
Logan decided this stalemate couldn’t continue and gave the order.
The tiny dragon, though clearly uneasy under the pressure of Mew’s overwhelming psychic energy, still bared its teeth and let out a fiery Dragon Breath. As expected, the breath of fire distorted into nothing before it could even touch Mew—bent and erased by invisible psychic force, like it was nothing but a puff of hot air.
This result infuriated Gible. It snarled furiously and gnawed its sharp teeth, clearly itching to charge at Mew, and probably would have if Logan hadn’t stepped in.
"Return, Gible!"
Logan didn’t hesitate, recalling the little dragon immediately. A good trainer must understand the gap in power and know when to retreat. Right now, Gible couldn’t even last one round against Mew. Any mistake could be fatal. Putting it back in its Poké Ball was the safest move.
"Mew’s been found. It’s right here!"
Just as Logan was about to release Mewtwo, a shout echoed from deeper in the woods. His brows furrowed—it had to be members of Team Rocket. Mew’s expression darkened at once. It looked at Logan and the Poké Ball again before suddenly turning away and becoming a streak of cherry-colored light.
Its previously innocent eyes turned sharply, glaring at the approaching chaos. At that moment, the forest fell utterly silent.
Under Logan’s gaze, the Team Rocket grunts and their Pokémon suddenly froze like stone statues. Not even their breathing could be heard.
"That’s... Mirage Technique!"
Logan recognized the psychic illusion skill at once—Mewtwo’s signature move. As dull thuds followed, the grunts and their Pokémon collapsed into the soft forest mud. The area became eerily quiet, like a haunted zone devoid of life.
And Mew, without a word, twisted through the air erratically before turning into a flash of psychic energy and vanishing from Logan’s sight.
As expected, that adorable little Pokémon had only acted so pitiful out of curiosity toward Logan—and fear toward Mewtwo. But no matter how cute it seemed, it was still a legendary Pokémon. Its true strength was beyond what most could face.
"Mewtwo? Why so quiet?"
There wasn’t a soul left around—not even wild Pokémon. Mew had scared everything away. Ironically, this moment was the safest Logan had felt since entering the forest.
[Logan, you once told me my name meant "to surpass Mew," didn’t you?]
Mewtwo’s voice finally spoke again, but the tone was different—filled with intense, burning determination.
"I did say that. Why? What’s up, Mewtwo?"
[I have a request.]
"Wow, that’s rare. Go ahead."
[I want to keep chasing it—Mew. Next time we find it, I want to challenge it to a battle. I want to prove the meaning of my name.]
Logan blinked in confusion. Mewtwo had never once shown existential doubt or internal struggle before. But now, after encountering Mew, its fighting spirit was ablaze. Why was it suddenly so eager to challenge Mew?
Still, Logan couldn’t refuse such a request. Instead, he smiled.
"Alright then—we’ve got a new goal: track down Mew and battle it."
