The domain hit the chamber like a second ceiling coming down.
Every surface went dark simultaneously, the red veins in the walls extinguishing, the available light collapsing inward toward the Hollow Keeper at the center of the boundary like everything bright had been given a direction and told to move.
The air thickened. The floor hummed. And from the rubble near the eastern wall Liz’s eyes opened.
She sat up slowly, one hand pressed to her ribs. The domain’s pulse had pulled her back the way not gently, just effectively.
She looked at the chamber.
At Malachar standing in the boundary’s pressure like it was mild weather.
At Marcus beside him, blade in hand, He’s minute STR stats doing visible work in the way he held his weight, ready and forward and completely unbothered by the domain trying to push him back.
At the Hollow Keeper between them, both hands raised, lips moving in something that wasn’t language, dark syllables rolling out of it one after another like something being unwound from a very old spool, pouring everything it had left into the boundary that was supposed to have ended this.
"Still standing," she said quietly to nobody.
The Hollow Keeper spoke through the domain pressure, its voice carrying the particular quality of something using its last significant resource and knowing it.
"You cannot cut through a Forsaken Domain," it said. "The boundary converts physical force into void energy. Every strike you land feeds it. Every step forward costs you twice what it costs me." A pause. "You have perhaps two minutes before the MP drain empties you both."
Marcus looked at his bar.
[MP: 45/100]
Dropping. Slowly but consistently, the domain pulling from him just by existing inside it.
"Mal," he said quietly.
"I see it," Malachar said.
"The domain converts physical force," Marcus said, his mind moving fast. He pulled up Malachar’s skill set mentally.
[MALACHAR — ACTIVE SKILLS]
[TITAN’S ADVANCE]
[CRIMSON VERDICT]
[WARLORD’S PRESENCE]
[UNBREAKABLE]
[CONQUEROR’S RETURN]
[CRIMSON DOMAIN — Projects a boundary suppressing enemy passive abilities. Limited duration.]
He stared at the last entry.
There it is.
" Marcus looked at the Hollow Keeper pressing its boundary against them. "Use it. Counter his domain with yours."
"It will be a contest of which holds longer,"
Malachar said.
Then he drove his sword into the chamber floor.
"[CRIMSON DOMAIN: ACTIVATED]
The crimson boundary erupted from the sword outward in a perfect circle, climbing the walls, hitting the Forsaken Domain at its edges and pushing back with the full weight of everything Malachar was. The two domains met and the chamber became the space between them, light and dark bleeding against each other at the boundary line, neither one immediately yielding.
The Hollow Keeper felt it.
Its posture changed. The first genuine exertion Marcus had seen from it, both hands pressing harder, the void energy between its palms deepening as it committed more to the contest.
" Interesting," it said through the effort. "A Drauven’s domain against mine." Something that might have been satisfaction moved through its voice. "This is what I waited for."
Marcus was already moving.
Inside the Crimson Domain the pressure lifted and he had full movement again. He came at the Hollow Keeper from the left, fast, blade finding the gaps the domain contest had opened in its defensive attention, each strike landing in the spaces where it was looking at Malachar instead of him.
The Hollow Keeper adapted. Sent void bursts at Marcus without releasing the domain pressure, multitasking with the ease of something that had been doing this for centuries. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Marcus dodged the first. Redirected the second off the blade. Took the third across his shoulder and kept moving because stopping was worse.
[HP: 67/100]
"You are fast," the Hollow Keeper said, tracking him. "Faster than the others who came before you." The domain flickered once at its edges. "But fast is not enough."
"It never has to be enough on its own," Marcus said.
He stopped moving.
Planted his feet directly in front of the Hollow Keeper at close range, inside the reach of the void bursts, too close for them to build properly, and looked at it from a distance of three feet.
"Malachar," he said. "Now."
Malachar pulled the sword from the ground.
Both domains collapsed simultaneously, the crimson and the void bleeding out of the floor and walls at the same moment, the chamber going neutral for the first time since they’d entered it, and in that neutral space Malachar activated Crimson Verdict.
The strike came down in a single overhead arc that split the chamber floor from Malachar’s position all the way to the Hollow Keeper’s feet, the ground opening beneath it, and in the same moment Marcus drove his blade forward with everything he had, finding the point in the Hollow Keeper’s center where the void energy was most concentrated and hitting it directly.
Both landed at the same time.
The Hollow Keeper staggered.
Then it went still.
The darkness bled away from its edges first, releasing in pieces, the ancient weight behind its eyes setting itself down with the particular relief of something that had been carrying too long and had finally been given permission to stop.
It looked at Marcus as the dissolution reached its face.
"Finally," it said. The voice was smaller now. Quieter. The centuries leaving it along with everything else. "I have done my part. The seal passes to you now. What I kept contained will not sleep forever." A pause. "Do not make the same mistakes I made."
Marcus held its gaze. "What mistakes."
But the Hollow Keeper was already ash, drifting apart in the still air, and the chamber was quiet and the red veins in the walls went dark one by one.
Malachar straightened slowly and looked at Marcus.
Malachar looked at Marcus for one last moment. Then he knelt, one massive knee pressing into the cracked chamber floor, head bowed, sword planted before him .
"U did well" Now go rest.
Then he came apart.
