Lowering his pipe, the Third swept his gaze across the six Genin and two Jonin present.

Given your combined strength, I’m assigning Team Ten to reinforce Team Eight. Eliminate Zabuza if the chance arises. Kakashi, you’re Squad Leader; Asuma, second-in-command.

He turned to the Third: Hokage-sama, we accept. Request permission to deploy immediately.

Go. I’ll have your Departure Papers filed retrograde. Make for the Land of Waves—now.

The Third handed Kakashi the scroll, face solemn.

Inuzuka Kiba’s Ninken couriered this intel; review it en route.

Kakashi pocketed the scroll.

Team Seven, Team Ten—with me.

At his command they exploded into motion.

Asuma shot out first, too frantic even to light his ever-present cigarette.

Naruto and Sasuke locked eyes, then sprang after him; Sakura followed a heartbeat later.

Shikamaru kept pace without complaint—Team Eight were his friends too.

Ino and Choji flanked him; the two squads blurred across Konoha’s rooftops and vanished over the wall.

At the gate, Izumo Kamizuki and Kotetsu Hagane simply stepped aside—orders from the Third had already reached them.

Once beyond the barrier Asuma poured on speed, a blur racing toward the Land of Waves.

He vaulted through the treetops, birds erupting from branches in his wake.

Hold up, Asuma—pace yourself!

Kakashi’s shout fell on deaf ears; Asuma’s mind held only images of Kurenai in peril.

Tch—keep up, don’t let him out of sight.

Kakashi surged forward, silver mane whipping in the wind.

Naruto and the others pushed their bodies, branches whipping past.

Shikamaru analyzed while he ran: At this clip we’ll burn a day’s worth of Chakra before we even reach the Coast.

But Kurenai-sensei is in trouble right now...

Sasuke’s Sharingan flared crimson in the sunlight. Then we rotate point and keep the squad’s overall speed maxed.
