Joo Joowon closed his eyes.
The feeling of nausea finally surged up belatedly.
He worked hard to adapt to this apocalypse, whose terrifying difficulty had already become apparent from only a brief exploration, refusing to allow himself to become weak.
"Meow~"
After confirming there was no danger, the little cat cautiously walked over and tried to rub against Joo Joowon.
However, it accidentally bumped into the lock picking tool nearby and immediately jumped in fright before diving headfirst under the sofa without looking back.
Joo Joowon: "..."
He felt somewhat speechless, but his mood could not help becoming lighter.
Then suddenly, his eyes lit up.
He had thought of a solution!
After removing the peephole, the door would leave behind a fairly large opening.
If he thrust a weapon through the hole, it would not require much force at all.
With how reckless zombies were, they would definitely ram themselves straight into it.
This undoubtedly would not consume much of his strength.
Joo Joowon could not help smacking his own forehead.
How had his pig brain only thought of this method now?!
He even already had a ready made tool!
Joo Joowon excitedly stood up from the floor.
He immediately grabbed the wooden mop handle he had brought back and used the kitchen knife to sharpen one end into a point.
Then he rubbed his sore arms, which ached from exerting too much force, put on his clothes and helmet again and headed back outside.
While nobody had fully reacted yet, he needed to kill as many zombies as possible.
Otherwise, later on everyone would start competing for kills.
Besides, if he cleared out his entire floor, he would also be able to sleep more peacefully at night.
Joo Joowon arrived at a door behind which a zombie was trapped.
He unscrewed the peephole and immediately violent banging sounds came from inside as the zombie slammed against the door.
Peepholes were usually installed at around one point five meters high.
If he really happened to encounter a zombie shorter than one point five meters, then he could only consider himself unlucky and move on to another apartment.
However, Joo Joowon did not believe he could be so unlucky that all three remaining zombie occupied units contained short zombies.
Naturally, attacking through the peephole also had disadvantages.
Since the attack could only go straight forward without changing direction, he could not aim for the zombie’s fatal spots.
But at the very least, this method could pin the zombie against the door.
At that point, he could always think of another way to open the door afterward.
He did have some experience with lock picking.
Even without the special lock picking tool, it would only be more troublesome rather than impossible.
It would merely mean returning to his old trade.
He inserted the sharpened mop handle through the opening in the door and tightened his grip.
"Puchi!"
The sound of the wooden stick piercing flesh was almost drowned out by the crashing impacts.
Joo Joowon could only feel the resistance transmitted through the mop handle before forcefully pushing it deeper inside.
A moment later, the zombie’s roaring continued nonstop and disappointment appeared on Joo Joowon’s face.
It seemed zombies really did have to be killed by destroying their heads.
Although he was not particularly surprised by this result, Joo Joowon still could not help sighing.
He pulled the mop handle back out and once again inserted the lock picking tool inside.
After confirming it had caught onto the door handle, he thrust the mop handle back in again, firmly pinning the zombie in place.
Then he opened the door, picked up the fire axe, and swung downward.
[ Ding! ]
[ Level 1 Zombie has been killed ]
[ EXP +1 ]
Hearing the system notification, Joo Joowon was surprised for a moment.
So copper coins were not guaranteed drops?
If that was the case, then copper coins seemed like they would become even more valuable.
Joo Joowon made a mental note of this.
He pulled out the mop handle, gripped the fire axe, and cautiously walked inside, his gaze landing on the bedroom door.
Unlike the previous zombie he had killed, that zombie had originally been in the living room eating takeout and had not been asleep.
But this zombie had burst out from the bedroom.
Although the bedroom door was far less sturdy than an anti theft door, breaking through it still required some strength.
From this, Joo Joowon could clearly tell that zombies truly possessed considerable power, probably at least around six points.
They were nothing like the slow moving zombies from novels.
There was only one zombie in this apartment.
The other tenant was not home, perhaps working a night shift or out having fun.
Joo Joowon searched through the apartment and found a box of cold medicine, a box of ibuprofen, and a bag of frozen gyoza in the refrigerator that the tenant had stockpiled.
After taking these items away, Joo Joowon also dismantled their mop handle and broom handle before repeating the same strategy.
This time, however, he was not as lucky.
Both tenants were inside the apartment.
He blocked the door again using the table, pinned one zombie with the mop handle, killed the other one first, and then reopened the door to finish off the pinned zombie.
Zombies had no intelligence, only a desire for flesh and blood.
After being skewered by the mop handle, the zombie did not even think about retreating.
Instead, it simply twisted its body, giving Joo Joowon plenty of time to attack.
However, the zombie’s strength was truly astonishing.
By the time Joo Joowon finished killing one zombie, the other had actually twisted the mop handle hard enough to snap it apart.
Fortunately, the remaining section could still be used.
Because of this, Joo Joowon had no choice but to temporarily rest.
He also gave up on the idea of using metal pipes as substitutes.
Most mop and broom handles nowadays were not made of wood but hollow steel tubing.
