On piling up resources and connections, grinding and filling bit by bit, forcing that road to the next rank open with pure bulk.”

Nicole’s voice was calm, but her words carried a clear chill. “People like that, because their talent’s limited and the road’s hard, tend to clump together. They form little interest groups. Build factions.”

“Eden…” She paused, a hint of history in her tone. “…was started by a bunch of third-rank apprentices like that. Of course, those original founders are either dead or long since moved up. Became real Demon Hunters, left the apprentice circles behind. They’ve got nothing to do with Eden now. But the organization, the name ‘Eden,’ stayed. She tilted her head back, finished the last of the water, and set the empty bottle down on the table with a soft tap.

“Honestly…” Nicole’s voice dropped a little. Pandora actually agreed with a lot of Nicole’s speech, with all its mixed-up resentment, disdain, envy, and weird respect. A crude but fitting saying from her past life popped into her head: Shallow water, lots of turtles. Not wrong.
