"Oh my—I am so sorry," I said, unsure what to be horrified about first. Tessa making her blind. Or the fact that she so casually talked about having sex with Quinlan like she was talking about the weather.

She patted my arm again. "Oh, don’t worry about it. It was a long time ago. And you wouldn’t imagine how much money I have made off of it. Every time I want something from Quinn, all I have to do is remind him of it, and he gives me whatever I want."

Her giggle was extremely naughty, but I couldn’t help the burn in my chest. "You are... his lover?"

Charlene’s lips popped in a small red "O", and she started laughing again. I noticed her smile lines. "No. Well, yes, in the past, but not since what happened with Tessa. We’re merely friends now. I run his clubs in his absence, and get a monthly wage with attractive bonuses for all the money I make him."

I nodded, instantly feeling more at ease with her. She reminded me of Juliette. They both had a warmth to them that was endearing. "Like a manager."

Her red mouth curved up sensually. "I like to think myself more of a partner." Then she paused. "What are you doing down here anyway? You must be bored out of your mind."

I tried not to keep the irritation out of my voice. "They had some business to conclude up there. One I’m not privy to."

Charlene gasped. "Nonsense."

I was starting to like Charlene more and more.

She wore a thoughtful expression. "Well, Quinn likes to hold his private meetings in there because it is the most discreet place he could get without the Queen’s prying eyes. Still," she shook her head. "Leaving you down here simply won’t do."

"You don’t happen to have a way of getting me in there so I can smash their heads in, do you?" I asked sourly, though, I was more interested in seeing this theater than hurting them.

A wicked smile tilted her lips. "Matter of fact, I do."

I sat up straighter, eyes round. "Really?"

She nodded. "But you have to promise to stay put. Or we’re going to be in so much trouble."

I nodded over at the guard before remembering that she couldn’t see him. "There’s a guard. How do we get rid of him?"

Charlene smiled, reaching down to part her robe, so her breasts looked more inviting. "Leave that to me."

For discretion, Charlene had me dressed like a waitress.

I traded my jeans for a short black shirt, the only one we could find on short notice that covered enough of my ass to not look obscene. And I had on a white shirt that was tied into a knot above my stomach, exposing my midriff.

Charlene cackled darkly as she found another waitress to paint colors into my face and fix my hair into a tight ponytail. The top buttons of my blouse were loosened to show off a little tease of cleavage."Oh, Quinn is going to have my head for dinner."

"You seem excited by that," I murmured, fluffing the skirt.

"Oh, I am. You’ve never seen Quinn truly enraged, have you? It’s complete chaos."

I was going to ask why she thought he would be enraged by this but someone else appeared, handing me a pair of extremely high heels that I might have tripped on before I became a Lycan, but now moved around in with ease.

"Keep your head low," Charlene said, grabbing a tray off the hands of a waitress and shoved it into my grasp. I was impressed by her command of her environment. It was like she knew every corner, could sense every movement and knew where everyone was with her eyes closed.

She turned. "And remember. Don’t stray too far from me or I won’t be able to keep the men off you. I assume you would like to look around for a bit before committing battery and assault?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

I bit my lower lip nervously. "Maybe. Just a little."

There was that wicked little giggle again. "I assure you, it will be worth your while."

Kingsley, the bouncer, didn’t even glance in my direction before letting us through. He was too busy looking at Charlene’s breasts to notice my unbidden sneer.

The second the door shut behind us, the lights were dimmed, and it took me a second to adjust to the darkness.

And nothing—absolutely nothing—could have prepared me for the it.

The theater was smaller than a regular theater, but that made it much more intimate in a way that made the hairs on the back of my neck rise.

It was shaped like a crescent, the seating arranged in sweeping tiers that curved around a circular stage at the center of the room.

Everything was draped in velvet and gold. Deep burgundy curtains framed the walls, and the golden lights from the chandelier were soft and dimmed to near darkness so that the spotlight on the stage could shine.

Private booths occupied the upper levels, each one partially concealed behind the same burgundy curtains that could be drawn shut with a pull of a cord for privacy. Some were open, revealing plush sofas and low tables crowded with crystal glasses.

Others were closed, leaving on the shadow of moving silhouettes.

A throaty cry split the air and my gaze snapped back to the source. It came from the stage.

And my breath hitched.

A woman was held up by her wrists by intricate black ropes and harnesses, her legs bound far apart and wider than I thought possible. Her body arched forward as two men licked and nibbled her naked skin. She thrashed against the harness, hips bucking as a third man feasted between her legs, the pink of his tongue latched onto her most intimate spot, drawing out another cry from her.
