The choice was obvious, really. His opinion favoured the spear before he’d even used one during a real fight, and that feeling had only intensified now that he actually had. In fact, It could be said that if it weren’t for his choosing the spear, he might not have even survived the battle against the Yellow Spotted Leopard, let alone passed the test.
’This saves me having to go somewhere to buy a suitable weapon as well!’ Not only that, but it was a major upgrade from his original plan. With the $100,000 stipend he’d received from the government for registering as an Awakened, he could only afford a somewhat decent spear at beast, yet now here he was walking away with a Genetic Armament at that.
Rohan looked down at the small glowing sphere of red light in his hand, feeling how weightless and textureless it felt in his grip. As an Item from the Origin Realm, scientists remained stumped on their mechanism even now, nearly a hundred years later.
Both Genes and Genetic Armaments looked like orbs of light in their natural form once dropped from beasts, and were only distinguishable by their size. Genes were about the size of a marble once dropped, while Genetic Armaments were the size of a tennis ball. Not only this, but their rank was easily identified by their colour, following the well known ’rainbow’ or visible light spectrum — Red being the lowest F rank.
From there it went as follows: Orange as E rank, Yellow as D rank, Green as C rank, Blue as B rank, and finally Purple as A rank.
As for S rank genes and Genetic Armaments... they were considered more special, and their colours reflected that — being white orbs of light.
The Genetic Armament he chose wasn’t anything special. It’s status screen revealed that much at least.
[F rank Genetic Armament: Horned Rabbit Spear]
Horned rabbits were some of the weakest beasts in the Origin Realm, and they were very popular for newbie Awakened to hunt, as they spawned near most of the human cities where Awakened would be allocated to upon first entering the Origin Realm.
Genetic Armaments had a chance to drop from beasts upon their death, and were usually related to the beast they came from in various aspects. For example, with the Horned Rabbit Spear Rohan chose the spear tip resembled the horn on the rabbit’s head.
As for the Origin Realm itself, even though nearly a hundred years had passed since its introduction to the Earth and the human race, there was still much about it that was unknown.
Such as how big it was. Humans had been exploring it ever since it was first discovered, and so far they had mapped everything within a 10 million kilometre radius of the human domain, which itself was only about 1 million kilometres in diameter.
Some Awakened theorised that it was actually infinite, just like how our own universe is theorised to be, which only continued to boggle many scientist’s minds. The Origin Realm is all one flat plane, to put it simply.
Unlike spherical objects like planets are in the universe, due to the natural effects of gravity, the lands and oceans of the Origin Realm just continue on endlessly. Even despite this, the sun sets and rises in a natural 24 hour orbit, just like on Earth.
Many aspects of the Origin Realm are considered too magical and far beyond the realm of science.
Rohan registered the Horned Rabbit spear to himself instead of delaying any longer, as a few lingering gazes coming from nearby were starting to make him nervous. Even though he knew nobody would be stupid enough to attempt robbing someone of their valuables while in the Association, that same rule didn’t apply when they were outside.
Registering the Genetic Armament or Gene prevented this most of the time; once registered, it showed up in one’s status and could only be dropped or transferred if the owner willed it. It wasn’t like with beasts, killing an Awakened to drop their Genetic Armaments didn’t work.
Registering a Gene was a permanent thing, and couldn’t be undone. The opportunity to do so only came once per rank as well, so all Awakened cherished it.
[Name: Rohan Roy]
[Rank: F]
[Talent: Evolution Gene (0%)]
[Genes: — ]
[Genetic Armaments: F rank Horned Rabbit Spear]
’That feels much better now.’
Rohan felt much more relaxed now that it was registered to him. Now he could nearly call himself a fully fledged awakened. All he needed now was to find himself a gene to register.
After all that, Rohan impatiently left the Awakened Association. Now that he had some money to his name, he planned to splurge a little, especially since his first exploration of the Origin Realm was coming up imminently! He had resolved his weapon situation, but he still required some armour and other essential equipment before entering.
He stepped out onto the street, walked to a nearby roadside pole, and pressed a button on it.
A few moments later, a hovercar suddenly descended right in front of him and opened the nearest door for him. The walk from school to the Association took him over an hour, and the journey to the the closest mall that served Awakened would take even longer, and Rohan didn’t feel like making that trek.
Even though hailing a hovertaxi was costly, that was for the previous Rohan before he was an Awakened. Now that he had money, there was no need to hoard it all without spending a penny. After all, wasn’t that the purpose of money anyway? To make his life easier and more comfortable?
At least Rohan thought so.
Science and technology had developed quite a bit in the past hundred years, and even more thanks to the developments the Origin Realm provided. Many past luxuries became a common service in this day and age thanks to it.
Unable to contain his excitement, he entered the taxi and went on his way.
He was just itching to test out his new Genetic Armament. If he were to face the Yellow Spotted Again but with his new Horned Rabbit Spear, the outcome would be much different.
