True Darkness still lingered the snow, spilt by Scar of the Hollow. Faint traces of external light seeped in, illuminating shattered terrain in uneven pulses that revealed broken stone, melted snow reformed into jagged obsidian-like crusts.

Sunny stood at the center of it all, his posture strained but controlled, his body held together less nothing but hopes and dreams, and more than a little spite. The Mantle’s still clung to him, though its surface was degraded. His remaining eye was half-lidded, not from exhaustion alone, but from the effort of maintaining awareness in an environment that refused to provide stable sensory input.

Cocolia remained opposite him, or at least what was left of her continued to exist in opposition. Her body had lost the coherence it once possessed, reduced to a broken, half-reconstructed form sustained by the last remnants of Corruption. She had one arm left, and her vision had long since failed her due to the True Darkness surrounding them, yet neither of those losses had reduced her capacity to fight. Instead, what remained of her existence had regressed into something more primitive, more instinct-driven, as though the absence of vision had forced her mind into a purely predatory state.

She moved without sight, yet every motion carried intent. Her body twisted unnaturally, using momentum, weight, and madness as replacements for the faculties she had lost. Each movement was unpredictable in shape but not in purpose. Sunny could not see her, and he could not feel her through shadow sense, but Shadow Dance compensated for the absence of both sight and shadows, allowing him to expect the unexpected.

He did not perceive her directly. Instead, he reconstructed her.

He placed himself in her position.

Not metaphorically, but structurally, as though mapping his own consciousness onto a broken framework and attempting to simulate what actions would arise from that instability. It was an imperfect method, one that required constant recalibration, especially under conditions where his own perception was compromised. Even so, it allowed him to respond, though only barely, as each exchange pushed his body further toward its limits.

Cocolia attacked again, her movement manifesting as a sudden pressure shift rather than a visible motion. Sunny reacted immediately, pivoting his stance and bringing one arm upward to intercept. The impact was not elegant. It was heavy, jagged, and violent, sending a shockwave through his arm that threatened to shatter his remaining grip on consciousness. He countered without hesitation, driving his other fist forward into what he estimated to be her torso, forcing her backward into fractured terrain.

Neither of them paused.

There was no rhythm anymore, no exchange of structured combat. It had degraded into continuous collision, each moment flowing into the next without distinction, as though the concept of turns or timing had ceased to exist within the boundaries of their confrontation. Sunny’s Shadow Dance continued to function, but its accuracy degraded with each exchange, as the strain of maintaining simulated positional awareness in a nonexistent sensory field was getting to him.

He could still predict her.

But barely.

Sunny’s breathing remained controlled, but it was becoming shallower, his body relying more on instinct than deliberate coordination.

Then something changed.

It did not begin as an attack or a shift in motion, but as an intrusion of structure into an environment that had abandoned structure entirely. A faint source of light emerged within the True Darkness, not dispersing it fully, but forcing it to recede in a localized radius around both combatants. It was imposed, as though something had forcibly asserted a boundary where none should have existed.

Within that sphere, Sunny’s shadow sense slightly returned

Not fully restored, but enough for Shadow Dance to properly work on the Corrupted Saint.

Cocolia stood at the edge of True Darkness, her body barely holding its structure together. The Corrupted ice that had once defined her armor had nearly dissolved entirely, leaving exposed fragments of fractured skin formed from ice.

At her claw’s edge, what little Essence remained began to dry up.

It was not ice.

It was not Corruption.

A beam, formed of pure Destruction.

Not something that could be dodged. Not something that could even be meaningfully reacted to in his current state.

Just an execution that had already decided it was going to happen.

At that distance, in his condition, Sunny had no path left that led to survival. His body lagged behind intention, dragged down by injuries and exhaustion that made every movement feel like it was happening half a breath too late. The brief clarity the light had given him was already fading, slipping away like something borrowed that had no intention of staying.

There was no real choice left.

Only the moment where reality finished closing in.

Then the world broke.

A blade fell through space as if space itself had forgotten how to remain intact. It did not come from a direction that could be tracked or followed. It simply arrived where it was needed, cutting through the gap between intention and action.

Cocolia’s remaining arm vanished first.

The blade didn’t hesitate after that.

It carried its motion through her body in a single, uninterrupted sweep, cutting through Corrupted ice, flesh, and whatever remained of her as though none of it could claim to be solid anymore. All that terrifying concentration of Destruction just... fell apart, scattering into harmless remnants that evaporated into the air.

For a moment, her body simply stopped.

As if it hadn’t realized yet that it was already over.

Then gravity remembered her.

She fell.

There was no resistance when she hit the ground, no strength left to even pretend at defiance. The fractured earth took her without reaction, and her form began to break down almost immediately afterward. Golden blood spilled out in fading streaks, losing shape before it could even decide where to go, dissolving into nothingness. The corrupted ice that had held her together shattered into useless fragments, and even those didn’t last long enough to scatter properly before disappearing.

Sunny stood there for a few seconds without moving.

Then he let out a slow breath and lowered his gauntlets a little, though he didn’t fully relax. His head turned slightly, just enough to acknowledge what was behind him without taking his attention off the remains in front of him.

"You see, my Shadows have their own reserves of Shadow Essence that they can use. It is a lot smaller than my own, since they don’t have complete Shadow Cores, but it is at least comparable to a human of the same Rank as them. It’s what they primarily use to fight until they run out, which is when they start to use my Shadow Essence. That reserve increases the more Essence I put into Shadow Amplification, and I had Amplified Serpent days ago. It had enough Essence to use its [Formless] Ability to transform into the Forsaken Knight, a Fallen Devil I killed when I was a Sleeper. It has the Ability to be practically immortal in True Darkness, while also vastly increasing its strength and speed. It can also conceal its presence. I didn’t particularly need to fight you before letting Serpent out of its [Shadow Guide] form, but it let me get you into a position where it could easily finish you off."

He paused for a moment. Then, he added a little haughtily: 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Don’t be too disappointed in yourself. My Aspect is simply superior, even in an environment that counters me almost perfectly."

Behind him, Serpent stood tall.

Its armor swallowed what little light remained, heavy and unyielding, covered in carvings. Inside the narrow slit of its visor, two red flames burned without flicker.

Cocolia’s remains faded fully, finally collapsing into something that couldn’t be called a body anymore.

The Spell spoke.

[You have slain a Corrupted Beast, Mother of Deception.]

[Your shadow grows stronger.]

[You have received a Memory.]

Sunny closed his fingers around the Soul Shard without looking at it for long. Then he turned away from the crater’s center, as though there was nothing left worth watching.

The True Darkness around them loosened the further out they walked.

Serpent followed a step behind him, silent as ever.

And behind them, Scar of the Hollow continued to rot.

Far beyond mortal comprehension, in a domain that did not conform to space, time, or structure, something stirred.

It was not seen in the conventional sense. It was registered as distortion across multiple layers of reality, a presence that existed by bending meaning rather than occupying form. Golden blood drifted through that void, not falling or flowing, but persisting as an unavoidable contradiction in space that refused to remain empty.

The entity shifted.

For a moment, it collapsed inward, then reformed into something vaguely humanoid. A dark-skinned figure emerged from the distortion, long white hair falling across a chest marked by a wound that continuously spilled golden light. The wound did not heal or worsen. It simply existed, an unresolved fracture in THEIR being.

THEIR eyes opened.

Not to observe space.

But to align with it.

And through that alignment, THEY saw Sunny.

The observation was not distant. It was absolute, cutting through layers of existence without resistance. The entity registered the interruption in function, the vessel that had failed to complete its intended cycle.

Cocolia had not been an absolute failure. The Lord Ravager of Remembrance has not truly fallen.

A temporary vessel through which something far greater had attempted to manifest.

Nanook remained still for a long moment, the golden wound continuing to spill light into the void without interruption. There was no anger in THEIR presence, nor frustration, only continuation.

Nothing has ended.

It had been delayed.

And delay, in the structure of existence, was never Permanence.

Just like a memory, the Lord Ravager would return.

Destruction would resume.

And when it did, the Universe would once again be required to respond.
