- Chapter 1- The Day When Sky Cracked.
Leo stood before the anvil, gazing at the completed hammer resting upon it. He held the carving pen firmly in his hand, Ready to carve.
Everything was ready—except for the runes. Out of the 47 available from the stele, he needed to choose which ones to inscribe.
"Ten hours remaining," came the booming announcement, echoing through the grand royal smithy like a thunderclap.
All the participants glanced anxiously at the massive clock towering over the hall. Some hurried their pace, hammering desperately as sparks flew wildly; others froze in panic, their hands trembling with nervousness as sweat beaded on their brows.
Whispers of frustration and fear rippled through the crowd. A few even dropped their tools, staring blankly at their incomplete works. But Leo ignored them all He kept his focus on the metal in fornt of him.
He stared intently at the hammer. His Forge Sight pierced its interior structure, revealing the delicate energy channel runes already glowing faintly beneath the surface like hidden veins of power. He pulled up the item’s status panel once more, the ethereal blue interface hovering before his eyes.
Memory of Creation. It remembers being born in the universe’s first dawn...
The line caught his full attention. What can I use this property for? he wondered, his mind racing.
Memory... It would be incredible if it could also serve as a personal assistant—like a personal artificial intelligence. Something that could anticipate needs, learn from its wielder, and evolve over time.
The thought had come as a mere murmur, but once it struck, it refused to leave. Artificial intelligence. He paused, heart quickening. With this metal’s unique property and the right runes, could I create something close to it? A living tool, almost a companion?
A flash of inspiration surged through him, electric and undeniable. Leo could no longer hold back.
He closed his eyes.
[Enter Mental Inscription Dimension]
The clamor of the royal smithy—the relentless clang of hammers, the sharp hiss of quenching water, the urgent murmurs of the judges—faded into perfect silence. Once again, he found himself floating in an empty void, with the virtual stele lingering at its center like an ancient monolith.
Leo manifested all 47 runes individually in the air. Each one pulsed with its own color and rhythm: Fire red, Water blue, Earth brown, Wind green, Light white, Dark black, and the rest—Storage, Record, Retrieve, Preserve, Energy, Mana, Innovate, Synthesize, Generate, Transform, Creation, Transformation, Analyze, Cause, Understand, Logic, Force, Light, Learn, Pattern, Wisdom, Apply, Spirit, Soul, Explore, Question, Seek, Discover, Time, Space, Sync, Balance, Matter.
In the mental dimension, time flowed differently, granting him far more time to work. He closed his eyes and recalled his graduate classes, specifically the lectures on artificial intelligence. He pictured his professor drawing diagrams on the whiteboard—nodes connected by lines, each firing signals to the next.
Neural networks. Layer after layer, each teaching the machine to see, to speak, to reason. And when enough layers connect... the machine begins to think for itself.
If the metal remembers everything... what happens when it learns to connect those memories?
Leo straightened, excitement building. The idea was beginning to take solid shape.
He envisioned six combinations, each representing a vital training layer: Memory feeding Creation. Creation feeding Logic. Logic feeding Experience. Experience feeding Curiosity. And when they were all connected through a final bridge...
The metal wouldn’t just remember. It would think, adapt, and perhaps even surprise its wielder.
Now he needed to substitute those functions with runes capable of similar tasks. He grabbed six runes that felt instinctively right and activated his Rune Combination skill.
The runes slammed together with a burst of energy, forming a new sigil that flickered briefly before shattering into sparks.
Tsk... Too basic. Elemental forces are hard to combine this way.
He fell silent as the 47 runic sigils continued to orbit him. Listing them carefully in his mind, he began with the first layer: data storage.
Something that can record, store, and retrieve. A true memory rune.
He scanned the available runes: Storage, Record, Retrieve, Preserve, Energy, Mana. Six drifted toward him at his gesture.
"Storage can act as the container," Leo murmured to himself. "Record writes the data, Retrieve reads it, Preserve maintains integrity. Energy powers the system, and Mana serves as the medium."
Guided by his will, the runes overlapped, merged, and reformed, flickering as if they might shatter at any moment. Finally, they stabilized, releasing a pulse of crimson light.

[Mnemos — Memory Rune Created]
[Reward: +12 INT for creating a new rune]
Satisfied with the foundation, Leo moved to the second layer—the generative model that could innovate, synthesize, and produce solutions from stored knowledge.
He selected the Rune of Nova (innovation), Synthesis, Generation, Muto (transformation), Creation, and Mutation. These layered over one another in a dazzling display until they merged into a single, dynamic rune that shimmered with ever-shifting hues of gold, silver, crimson, and green.

"Now for the Logic unit," Leo said aloud, his voice echoing in the emptiness. "A reasoning engine that analyzes, understands cause and effect, and applies flawless logic."
He chose Analysis, Causality, Scio (understanding), Ordo (order), Potentia (force), and Lux (light). The runes converged and merged into a precise, elegant geometric sigil that radiated clarity.

[Logos — Rune of Cognition Created]
[Reward: +10 INT for creating a new rune]
For the fourth layer—learning and training—he selected Learning, Pattern, Wisdom, Utir (applicability), Spirit, and Anima (soul). When they fused, the resulting rune glowed with a warm amber light, evoking the gentle promise of growth.

[Experience Rune Created]
[Reward: +7 INT for creating a new rune]
"Path of Experience," Leo smiled softly. "It learns from every strike, every success, every failure—growing wiser with each attempt."
For the fifth layer, Curiosity, he chose Exploration, Question, Seeker, Discovery, Time, and Space. The fusion produced a vibrant, questing rune.

[Curiosity Rune Created]
[Reward: +9 INT for creating a new rune]
Five runes now hung before him in a perfect semicircle: Mnemos, Genesis, Logos, Experience, and Curiosity. Each pulsed with its own distinct color—crimson, shifting multicolored, white, amber, violet—casting an ethereal glow.
Now came the sixth and most critical layer: the integration that would connect them all into true harmony.
He tried various combinations—Sync, Balance, Matter, Dark, Light, and Spirit—but the runes overlapped only to produce a weak, incomplete pulse. Multiple attempts followed: Light + Dark + Spirit + Soul + Matter + Chaos shattered violently; Sync + Balance + Fire + Water + Creation + Logic spun wildly before flying apart.
"Why won’t you form?" Leo growled into the void, frustration mounting.
He studied the five runes again. The integration layer doesn’t learn new information. It simply connects what already exists.
Instead of forcing a new rune, he allowed Sync and Balance to dissolve into the spaces between the five existing ones. Energy flowed, but it was disjointed at first. Gradually, he poured the connecting forces into the gaps: Mnemos feeding Genesis, Genesis informing Logos, Logos guiding Experience, Experience fueling Curiosity, and Curiosity circling back to Mnemos.
Five separate silos became five interconnected bridges. Light bloomed between them in cascading waves of power.
The incomplete central rune pulsed once... twice... and finally bloomed into radiant completion.

[All 6 Rune-Combinations Complete]
[Rune Network: Synchronized]
A complete network had formed—a prototype of an initial-stage artificial mind, pulsing with potential. Leo spent what felt like several more days in the mental space, practicing the carving of these intricate runes with relentless repetition until he was one hundred percent confident he could replicate them flawlessly in the real world.
He left the Mental Inscription Dimension.
Six hours still remained in the trial.
Leo picked up his carving pen and began inscribing like a true master. The judges stared at him in stunned silence. Moments earlier he had stood motionless like a brain-dead fool; now he moved with sudden, decisive precision that left them speechless.
Lines of crimson and silver light traced across the metal as the first rune, Mnemos, took shape on the hammer’s head. Each stroke carried the certainty of someone who had practiced it a thousand times.
Lady Silva adjusted her spectacles repeatedly, her usual composure cracking. "What... what is he doing? Those patterns are unlike anything I’ve seen."
Master Kael, renowned for his rune carving expertise, widened his eyes in disbelief. "They’re incredibly complex—each one contains multiple runes from the stele fused together in perfect harmony. Impossible for a novice!"
Leo was already carving the second rune, Genesis, overlapping and interconnecting with the first. Their energy channels linked at a molecular level, humming with latent power.
"Those runes... they seem to be interacting on their own," Elder Thrain said, awe and shock evident in his voice as he leaned forward. "The energy flow is self-sustaining!"
The third rune, Logos, formed on the side of the hammer head, white light joining the crimson and gold in elegant streams.
The fourth, Experience, was carved into the striking face with flawless accuracy.
The fifth, Curiosity, took shape along the handle, adding vibrant life to the design.
Each rune linked to the others through delicate energy channels that began to pulse faintly.
For the final rune—Harmony—Leo prepared himself. This was the most difficult. It needed to encompass the entire hammer while perfectly aligning with the positions of the other five.
He activated Hyperfocus skill. The world narrowed to nothing but the carved lines. Starting from Mnemos, he followed the flow of energy: Mnemos feeding Genesis, Genesis informing Logos, Logos guiding Experience, Experience fueling Curiosity, Curiosity returning to Mnemos. The carving spread across the hammer’s entirety, including the handle, in a mesmerizing web of light.
Harmony manifested at the center of the network, becoming the bridge that unified all five systems.

[Network Synchronized]
The hammer was finally complete. Its head blazed with brilliant light as the six interconnected runes pulsed in perfect rhythm, like a living heartbeat. Waves of energy rippled across its surface, casting shifting colors throughout the smithy.
Time still remained before the trial ended, but the judges were already growing numb with astonishment at Leo’s unprecedented performance. Whispers spread like wildfire among the spectators, and even the most stoic elders could not hide their wide-eyed amazement.
