- Chapter 1: The Beginning
On both sides of the room, there were small paths leading to the back. Bai Suihe didn’t immediately go to check them; instead, she walked to the wing room at the very right and pushed the door open. It was not the ordinary little house as it seemed from the outside but had additional space. As soon as she entered, she could feel the spaciousness inside, roughly the size of a football field.
Everything here was neat and orderly, densely packed with cart-sized frames filled with food, white rice, and flour, arranged in rows, looking very impressive. After walking around, she discovered corn, potatoes, and sweet potatoes, which hadn’t appeared in this world yet.
There were also various types of fruit in abundance. Even if she ate openly this lifetime, she estimated that she wouldn’t finish it all.
There were other rooms she hadn’t checked, but she didn’t delve into them.
She moved to the second room, which resembled more of a processing factory, with a lot of processing equipment. Presumably, the grains and flour next door were processed here.
The third room was surprisingly a study, truly a sea of books. Bai Suihe walked to the nearest bookshelf, casually pulled out a book, and found it was a children’s book in simplified Chinese characters.
Bai Suihe, "..." Could the baby have robbed some time-traveling woman’s golden finger?
The fourth room was a bedroom, a very modern large bedroom, equipped with a dressing room and bathroom. The dressing room was empty, but the bathroom was fully stocked with toiletries—including the toothbrush and toothpaste she had been missing since this morning.
She turned on the faucet, and water flowed out, which was simply too convenient.
And the empty closet in the dressing room made her really want to fill it up.
What thrilled her most was the two-meter-wide Simmons bed.
However, the plastic wrap on the Simmons bed was still intact, indicating it had never been occupied.
Bai Suihe couldn’t resist going over, pressing down on the Simmons bed with her hand. It was latex, promising a comfortable sleep.
Beside the bed was a large dressing table, thoughtfully arranged with skincare products, and at the center of the table was a redwood box.
Bai Suihe lifted the lid of the box to find a dozen bottles, each a different color, but without any labels. Bai Suihe didn’t dare open them casually.
She planned to ask the baby after it woke up. Placed so prominently, they surely weren’t ordinary items.
The fifth room was a modern large kitchen, with both Western and Chinese kitchens, fully equipped with appliances and a row of freezers packed with meat and seafood.
Bai Suihe couldn’t help but pat her belly, truly a considerate baby.
The last room, thought to be another surprise, turned out to be empty, though she had already thought of various uses for it.
"This golden finger is simply too generous," Bai Suihe thought that with such a treasure, even in exile, she should be able to hang onto her life.
Turning to look at the land in front, she estimated it was about five acres.
She followed the small path along the edge of the house to the back, where there was another piece of land, planted with many vegetables, all ready to be harvested.
Walking over, she picked a sprig of cilantro and inhaled its familiar scent, suddenly craving hotpot.
Going further, there was a gray, foggy area, like a boundary, or the very edge.
Bai Suihe shouted loudly into the space, venting her frustration of the day.
"Great, if I can’t be the main protagonist, I won’t be a cannon fodder either."
Looking at the mountain beside her, the fruit trees were laden with ripe fruits. Bai Suihe even spotted lychees. She wondered at what speed these fruit trees grew—would the fruits remain on the tree if not picked?
With a flash of thought, she widened her eyes to see the lychees on the tree lining up and flying towards the warehouse on their own.
Bai Suihe was so delighted she forgot about her pregnancy, jumping up and down in place a few times before clutching her waist and laughing heartily.
After venting, she stuck out her tongue. Luckily, she was the only one in this space; otherwise, she would be seen as a lunatic.
She beckoned with her finger, and a bunch of lychees fell into her hand. She peeled it and put it into her mouth; it tasted familiar, even sweeter than she remembered, and of top quality.
Having both fruit and grains, Bai Suihe couldn’t help but start looking for meat. It wasn’t long before she found traces—chickens, ducks, and geese scavenging for food among the orchards.
Though she didn’t know why there weren’t larger animals, this was already very good, and she was satisfied.
She didn’t dare stay inside too long, unsure of the time flow between inside and outside. She didn’t want the maids and old women to be unable to find her.
Returning to the room, she noticed the meal the maids had laid out was still steaming. She touched it to find it still piping hot, yet she had been inside for quite some time, at least thirty minutes or more.
She couldn’t determine the exact time difference between the two spaces, but it was undoubtedly different.
She didn’t have time to study the space now. Seeing so many hot meals made her feel hungry again.
Looking down at her stomach, she decided to eat; this wasn’t the post-modern lifestyle where she maintained her figure by not eating before bed.
After eating, she asked the two old women to clear the dishes. Without feeling sleepy, Bai Suihe simply returned to the space again.
She first went to the kitchen, boiled a kettle of water, and poured a cup of hot water into every room and around the courtyard inside and outside. She wanted to see how the time flow in the space worked and if it could preserve freshness.
Having made another round of the space, she was indeed a bit tired and returned to bed to sleep.
The next day
Bai Suihe lay on the bed, still feeling as if she were in a dream. Transmigrating into a novel, household intrigues, a mysterious space, it was truly exhilarating.
"Third Young Madam, have you gotten up?" Dongmei called softly from outside. The mistress didn’t like them to serve inside, but they had to attend to her diligently.
"Come in," Bai Suihe almost wanted to curse. She didn’t even know when she could ever sleep in; they started calling people up before dawn.
Just as she sat up, she immediately held her head, "Dongmei, if I remember correctly, the Old Madam said yesterday that I should rest well in my courtyard for a few days. Why are you calling me so early again today?"
Dongmei hung her head, "Nanny Zhou came again late last night. Afraid it would disturb the Third Madam, I didn’t report it. The Old Madam said you should go over again this morning."
Bai Suihe nearly cursed. She took a deep breath, trying not to break character, "I’m feeling a bit dizzy getting up this early; call the mansion physician."
Some midnight whim. It seemed nothing good was to come of it. Bai Suihe chose the clumsiest method—faking an illness.
Dizziness was an ailment no doctor could easily diagnose, and Bai Suihe wasn’t afraid of it being exposed.
But Dongmei and the others were quite anxious, "Third Young Madam, you should lie down quickly. I will send someone to fetch the mansion physician."
Bai Suihe lay back down, "Remember to send someone to the main residence to inform them, apologize on my behalf to the Old Madam."
Dongmei immediately made arrangements and personally took a cloth, soaked it in warm water, and placed it on Bai Suihe’s forehead, "Third Young Madam, besides dizziness, do you feel any other discomfort?"
